Default Best compact camera for concerts?

Anyone have any good recommendations on compact cameras that work well at concerts. Trying to spend <$500. My top three priorities are 1) Easy to use, 2) Picture Quality, and 3) Compact.

Your recommendations are well appreciated. Thank you.

ive been meaning to get this one

this point and shoot has the RAW function built in it. it's a bit expensive but it's so pretty.
i really want it, but i'd rather buy a new lens

    but its about 600 bucks.

then again, if you wanna spend a lot of money on a compact, you might wanna spend more time waiting in line like supre to get to the front row. if not, theres no point buying an expensive one if youre still gonna be in the back of the crowd.

Day pics or night pics or both ? And what do you consider compact ??

Regardless, don't buy anything w/out image stabilization. Look up some of my prior posts for some of my recent pics. I use a Canon S3 which you can get now for <$250.

THOSE CAMERAS ARE SO PRETTY AND I WANT ONE.

I have a Canon Powershot SD1000. It works great for what I need, but it's fairly unremarkable.

Agreed, the Leica looks very cool but may be a little too raw for a beginner like me, especially for that price.

Would use for both day and night. By compact, I mean something that can fit in a pocket or just not be too intrusive at shows.

My husband has one - he LOVES it. He's taken this D-Lux, a C-lux, and his Digi-lux to the last three Coachellas.

If you want a pocket size camera, you're going to get smaller zooms and you're not going to get great pics unless you get on the barrier or close to it.

I like the Canon SD's. My g/f has one and they're nice.

I got this one right before Coachella.

It's served me pretty well since then. It takes pretty sharp low-light photos, but like most of these, the quality decreases the farther back you are.

are these cameras worth the price? I want a megazoom camera, i was thinking of getting the S5 Canon or the powershot sx100. I have a sony t10 and the zoom is only 3x.

pics you can take with the leica
    http://www.flickr.com/cameras/leica/d-lux_3/

the lowest aperture on the camera is 2.8 (which is really damn good for such a small camera) but what idont know is if the aperture increases if you zoom the lens in (which is gonna be a problem)

This loses mass points on ''easy to use''. I even tried this out and knowing the sony menus by heart I still jad problems accessing things on the fly.

Alright my ''reccomendations'' are this. Also at least you are giving yourself some room on the price cause some people think like under $200 will get the job done which it will not. I have a Canon SD630, but there is a newer model the Canon SD750 which has some newer features than the one I have and its 7 megapixels and is small. Canons are easy to use and images are amazing of course. I also own a Sony DSC T10, the next new ones like the Sony DSC T100 are a bit better, they have a bit higher zoom and pixel count and are still small, so try that out for sure. In the end I will say get the Canon because its overall solid, Sony wins on video by far since you can zoom in an out in real time and you can film a lot depending on your memory card size. I say get a 1GB card for sure just to not stress on space. the Canon also has long shutter mode which I do every once in a while depending on the venue I am st.The Troubadour works best for Long shutter actually, I would show some examples of the pics you can get with either cam but I am short on time. So theres that, when I get home(I am in PHX) I will post some other things if you have more questions or things you want to know abotu all of this. So check it all out and tell me what you think. Oh and both cameras you can get for under $400 so you are set on the budget. MEmory cards are very cheap nowadays too so you have no problems on that.

I like that Leica camera its got some cool stuff.

this is the camera i bought for point and shoot at festivals .... it does real well outside and daytime, but i would not recommend it for what you are asking for ... it might be me, but i just havent caught a good night photo yet from a show .. and again,it might be me, getting trashed and not paying attention to the settings ... the link said the leica was based on this version of this ... notice it does have leica lenses but not leica focusing system ... i bought it also because it is one of the few P/S cameras that have a 28 mm for landscape .. canx**

here is my old workhorse ... i took it to two coachellas, 2 roos, etc .. but it is heavy and some people gave me grief sp because they thought it didnt fit the build as a non pro camera .. no the lense doesnt come off ... the other thing bad lol, the focusing works on shooting red infared beams ... like a pointer or something ... i got kicked out of a show because of that ... so just a history of this camera canx**

Compact being the key word in thread title of course, this does not qualify.

    nope - I wouldn't try it.

as with other camera - or sneaking camera posts - don't get angry when you gotta haul your ass all the way back to the car and then wait thru the ungodly line again.

    just warnin.

if you detach the lens from the body they probably think its a compact. you just gotta hide the lens i suppose

thats the latest camera i bought .... i havent figured out how to take good night concert shots with it yet and that is one reason i bought it ... it does have pluses though ... it is the only small digital which has an equiv lens of 28mm ... most of them are 35 or even 50 ... this means of course you can take great outdoor and landscape pics .... color and saturation is good ... easy, small, and not a bad camera ... so i guess it all depends on what kind of pics you are going to take .. leica lense which is a plus ... and i spilled this goopy .Chipotle, peanut sauce, and raspberry dip all over the camera, and i mean all over it, it still sticks a little, but didnt seem to hurt it .... canx**

OK, thanks all for the help. Here’s what I’m down to:

I’m leaning towards the Leica D-Lux 3, which is a little pricey, but has great reviews. MSRP is $550
    http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/spec...eica_dlux3.asp

Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ3, primarily because of the 10X optical zoom. For <$300 it seems like a better deal
    http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/spec...nic_dmctz3.asp

Canon PowerShot SD870, also around $300
    http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/spec...on_sd870is.asp

    Thoughts?

one other odd thing about the lumix .... on vids only, the zoom does not work ... they said it was a choice between 28mm and zoom , why tech that doesnt work, not sure ... canx**

mine looks different then your link to the camera too, maybe i should check the model number but i think it is the same ... i bought mine maybe 3 months ago, and the article was spring of this year .. canx**
