Joe Johnson to be traded to Brooklyn. That pretty much rules them out of Dwight for this season at least. So that helps out with Orlando trading him to the Lakers because Bynum would be the best trade available for them. Still not sure how I would feel about trading Bynum. I just want to see him get his act together as part of the Lakers.

Trading Bynum for Howard is a lateral move if I've ever seen one, especially after both players displayed some serious character issues last season. Trading one whiney big man for another isn't gonna get us back to the finals.

Rumors are the Nets-Hawks deal is dependent upon Deron Williams agreeing to stay. In other words, if he likes the trade, the Nets will try to make sure it goes through. If not, they might pull the plug.

Dwight Howard is much, much better than Andrew Bynum. You Lakers fans are weird.

Agreed. I never understood why Lakers fans try to say otherwise. Bynum gets a ton of credit he doesn't deserve, and they cry foul about Gasol. Truly a weird lot.

Why would acquiring Joe Smooth rule out getting D12?

Here's how Dwight Howard's season averages compared to Andrew Bynum's:

    PPG: +1.9
    RPG: +2.7
    BPG: +0.2
    FG%: +1.5%
    FT%: -20.1%

Despite being the focal point of his team's offense, Howard's PPG barely eclipses Bynum's, who constantly took a backseat to the Kobe Bryant show (especially in the second half). If Bynum didn't play with another seven footer, I think he easily would have out-rebounded Howard. The only really disparity in their stats is at the free-throw line, where Bynum is much, much better than Howard. Right now Howard is the better player, but it's a lot closer than most people think.

It takes a special breed of imbecile to refer to your team's All Star center as "dead weight." The kid is 24 and only getting better. This isn't the EDC thread. We're not discussing ecstasy and pacifiers. Stick to what you know.

A lot of the baggage they unloaded to get Johnson was about half of what they would have used to get D-12. I say he plays out the season wherever and ends up signing with the Nets in FA. At this point I only see the Nets acquiring talent to get D-Will back and I'm sure signing D-12 next year via FA is going to be part of whatever they present to him when they meet.

Why the fuck did he sign that opt out waiver earlier this year?

I'm sure a really pathetic organization will trade an entire roster for Howard just so he can play one season and get them some ticket sales and perhaps a mid level playoff spot before he fucks them over and leaves for Brooklyn...

    Houston here he comes!

The Nets remain very much in the hunt for Dwight Howard — even after agreeing to the outline of a trade that will bring Joe Johnson to Brooklyn.
The goal is to have a Big Three of Deron Williams, Dwight Howard and Johnson, and it remains doable if the Magic are willing to play ball.
Orlando would have to accept a package of Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries, Gerald Wallace, MarShon Brooks and multiple future first-round draft picks, and the Howard deal would take the form of a massive sign-and-trade.
Wallace has already agreed in principle to a four-year, $40 million deal, and the outlines of deals with Lopez and Humphries would have to take shape before the deal could be agreed upon.

Bynum may be 24, but he's inconsistent and great for Laker drama, but I prefer championships over sloppy losses. He is definitely a contributor of the latter. You can compare stats all you want but he has no leadership skills and lets his emotions get to him constantly. A few great games happen in every players life, they have to be somewhat decent to get into the NBA. A few clutch games don't mean this guy is the new Jesus for the team.

Brooklyn already has agreed to a four-year, $40 million deal with its other top unrestricted free agent, small forward Gerald Wallace. The Nets could work a sign-and-trade deal with Wallace when the official signing period begins on July 11, but sources told Bucher that Wallace has been assured that is not the Nets' intention.

It's a shame Dwight Howard is getting a pass for all the bullshit he's been pulling the last two seasons.

    Not really.

EDIT* Kornheiser is the only pundit I can think of who really ripped into him. Everyone else has the "Oh, that Dwight Howard. What will he do next?" attitude.

Nowadays, that's pretty much the NBA in a nutshell.

I think it's funny that he's openly stated that he wants to be the guy wherever he goes, and yet he's been the guy in Orlando his whole career with very little success.

I'm with you. He doesn't have that killer instinct/take over a game type attitude that you have to have to be "the guy."

I feel like he disappears or has disappeared in big games.

Money wise. Johnson's 90 million left on his contract, Wallace's 40 million contract, and the massive Contract Williams will receive, assuming he stays with the nets. Doesn't leave much more room for Dwight's contract. It's pretty much assumed at this point Williams will resign but if he changes his mind and signs some where else then I guess it's possible for them to get Howard.

I don't care what sort of personal assurances they gave him when he inked the deal, if they can move Crash to get Howard they'll do it.

Wallace + Humphries + Lopez = pretty solid front court.

    Odom back on the Clips.

The Suns are considering offering Eric Gordon a max contract, 4 years for $58 mil. I like Gordon a lot, but if you're going to offer somebody a max deal coming off of knee surgery we should've done it with Amare.

I'm sure the Magic want at least 400 draft picks as well on that deal.
