Josh Smith got better after Mike Woodson left because Woodson didn't give a shit if Smith just jacked up shots and made that offense less efficient and effective. I swear, I just think many people only look at stats and ignore things like team culture and efficiency.

The Knicks would be better off with D'Antoni than Carmelo, but you can't just get the player to resign. So they might be stuck with Melo unless they can find a sucker to trade for him.

I guess Woodson did learn in his final season that Smith isn't a shooter, you're right. Though, "beast" might be a stretch. I get the sense Carmelo may not be as willing to change his game as Josh Smith was. He's used to being the focal point of a team, for better or worse, and I can't see him giving up that role. Even though it means that his teams will almost always not perform up to their capabilities. He's just stats over substance.

Agreed. From what I witnessed D'Antoni tried to make a Melo a jump shooter which isnt so much his game. Hopefully he gets more freedom and can get easier attempts going to and around the rim. 125 3's attempted in 27 games for the Knicks last year. Like holy fuck. 117 in 32 games this year
