    Default MILE HIGH FESTIVAL 2008!!

    Proposal of note

What: Mile High Music and Arts Festival, a two-day festival in City Park July 19 and 20

Size: Promoters project up to 50,000 people would hear 60 bands on five stages over two days

this could be interesting to look at and go to over the summer. AEG is trying to get this passed through city council

Sounds potentially great. I wonder what kind of bands will be booked for this event. Coachella? Jam? Oldies? Post-grunge and rap/rock?

Speaking of ACL, I still want to check it out someday. Need money and a lineup worthy of flight and hotel, of course. Barbecue helps.

I don't know about this, just because AEG books it doesn't make me think I will like the line up....

This part of the article makes me think it's going to be mostly jazz..

The Anschutz Entertainment Group wants to launch a massive yearly music and arts festival in City Park on the scale of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, saying it'll be an economic boom for Denver and clean up the park's checkered reputation.

Also there is this part of the article..

The park, while hosting the family friendly zoo and museum, has seen its share of problems, including shootings during 1993's "summer of violence" and gang disruption of the free City Park Jazz Festival series last summer.

Remember Goldenvoice/AEG booked Stage Coach so it doesn't have to be like Coachella or anything near it for booked acts.

I spoke to someone involved in that and they said it didn't do anywhere as good as they hoped. I didn't attend but J~$$$ said it was pretty good.

Perhaps Radiohead would be interested....but that time frame wouldn't fit them if they are planning Euro festivals around that time....

This will fail so hard. Hickenloper is so set on there is no crime in denver. Jazz in the park every weekend over the summer was disrupted by bloods. Which was kind of ironic. The would strut through the park flashing gang signs and taking pictures in front of all the rich whiteys to show how hard they are. City park would be one of the worst places to hold a music festival. Anchutz needs to visit Denver every once and a while.

It would work in city park in in another 2 years. I would love to see a festival like this in Denver, but maybe a different location.

Oh hickenlooper is set on city park because he has a rel estate developing company buying up all the property around city park. You want to make money buy property there and sell it to him for double the price in a year.

EDit: I do not think this will fail so hard. Im just thinking critically.

Monolith didnt go that well because of ticket sales. I think people in Denver are still waking up to what good music really is. Plus they didnt have shuttles to Red rocks its kind of far from any hotel or Downtown so you have to drive or carpool. A taxi from denver would cost you $50+. I loved monolith because it wasn't overly crowded, no overlapping of bands, great bands, and the weather was fantastic. The smokers had a hard time on the steps but it was a good time.

All around city park is neighborhoods. People spilling into the streets after the fest especially on the north side will run into trouble late at night.

I agree. Its not that bad of a neighborhood at all its just the perception. I would feel very comfortable walking around anywhere denver at anytime.

I walked back to my space after a concert at the Ogden. Later I was informed that it is allegedly a very dangerous area. I wasn't worried.

No where in Denver has ever scared me once as to being a tough neighborhood.

Logistically there is no parking anywhere near city park there would be tons of foot traffic after a fest and that would piss off a lot of people in surrounding neighborhoods.

Maybe they should deal with it. Perhaps leave for the weekend. They could lease their home for the fest.

Are the home prices in that neighborhood pricey?

I have seen a number of shows around that area and I have never been worried about anything as well. It seems like a nice neighborhood.

Well, you are the local so maybe you are on to something. But I think writing it off is a bad idea too. I remember the 1st time I went to Coachella in 2001 the whole area seemed really odd to hold a festival because the place looked run down and scary and look at what happened. I think their idea is in the right place maybe the location is just off. How about Auraria? or even a SXSW event in Lower Downtown?

Fucking word it is far....It is a 80 mile round trip from Frederick now. I feel like I should pack a lunch when I drive down there....I really do wish that had some kind of transport to and from the venue...
