Not too sure how long they've been around. A guy at the "cigarette tent" at my school just told me about them. It's Chino Morinos (of Deftones) side project. I havnt heard anything besides what's on their myspace page, but I dig "Format 12" quite a bit. Figured I'd throw 'em out there.

The idea of them has been around apparently before Deftones ever existed. They came out with a self-titled album 2 years ago. It's Chino, his friend from way back, Zach Hill, DJ Crook, a guy who's name I can't think of and then there's Rob Crow and Mary Timony on the album and sometimes live.

It's decent stuff. A lot different than Deftones

The *** hut... haha. Since washington has that lame "you can't smoke cigarettes within 25 feet from doors or windows" law, the school has a couple of covered picnic tables that you can smoke at. I'm calling it the *** hut from now on.

I think the original Team Sleep stuff was a lot better than what they came up with on their album, which was still pretty good. I think there was a ton of potential with their original sound, which you can hear on "The Passportal" from the Matrix Reloaded soundtrack and their early demos, which are floating around the net.

I agree, the demos that leaked were a lot better than the album.

Your school actually follows that rule? Are you in high school?

i caught Team Sleep @ Knitting Factory a year ago and it was one of the worst shows I have ever seen. Ever.
I ve seen Deftones maybe 20+ times and I was really looking forward to the show. Walter Schrieffels of Quicksand came out and played guitar with them for a song and they both sounded like shiiiiiiit.
I think the album is good, but poor choices of producers.
I am going to get so blown to Cypress Hill while they play.

I too have endured a Team Sleep show and hated it. It was about two years ago, here in London, and was one of the worst gigs I have ever seen.

ok. team sleep. NOT THE DEFTONES. look at it for what it is. i saw them. it was sick. they are sick. no one cares if youre in love with chino. the album is jsut as good as the demos. being that most of it is the same tracks. the only thing that isnt good is the poo they post on myspace. which is just them fucking around anyway. so yeah. thats all i have to say.

    Dear Nando,
They were probably much better at North Six when I saw them. Zach Hill's fucking crazy.

I would never have expected you to have a problem with Walter.

I saw them in Phoenix in 05, and they were great. Pinback opened, so we got to see Rob Crow perform with Team Sleep most of the night, which was pretty nifty. Especially when he tripped and totally ate it while singing.

I love Team Sleep. I thought their album was one of the best albums, if not the best album I heard, in 2005. I saw Team Sleep live at the El Rey theater in LA and they were amazing. Idiot Pilot opened for them who I also love. Pinback was awesome live also. Hella is badass too (Zach Hill, Team Sleep's drummer's band). I would love to see Team Sleep added to the Coachella lineup.

I heard the North 6 show was pretty good.
Zach Hill's drumming for Team Sleep tends to get a bit monotonous. It's sorta like "I get it. youre a crazy fuck of a drummer..on every song."
I was waiting for some consistency or just a steady groove instead of 45 minutes of DJ Shadow inspired drum seizures.

I have seen Walter perform live a few times and rarely am I happy with his performances. I saw Rival Schools @ Bowery Ballroom and he was good. I also saw Rival Schools @ North Six and they were horrible. Absolutely horrible. It was a halloween show with Glassjaw. That was a fun show. Glassjaw dressed as a bar mitzvah band called STAN LEVINE AND THE PARTY MACHINE. It was definitely fun. Apparently after I left the show, Helmet showed up and did some songs.

id be curious to see Zach Hill play with Hella. While I like his beats on the record, live I wasnt all that thrilled. Sure he can play, its just that I m not a fan of what he s playing.

i will vouch that i bet the shows were better pre zach. a tighter vibe anyway, more beat driven.
