In Hawaii's defense (And I know what will follow is a huge fallacy, so grain of salt), they don't suck as bad as they sucked.

Hawaii was killing my precious Fresno State. Then Marcus Riley gave Colt Brennan the ol' bloody brain, and almost made it competitive. That withstanding, normal ready-to-roll Hawaii was killing them.

Georgia Tech made Georgia quite nervous. Rivalry games are usually weird, so maybe it was an off day, but Georgia could have gotten beat easily.

Fresno toyed with Georgia Tech. If they hadn't made silly mistakes, it would have been a massacre.

So, on any given Sunday, Georgia would still win, but the game probably should have been 27-14 instead of what we were given.

Georgia's not one of the top 5 best teams in the nation. They're just hot right now, which appears good.

They wouldn't beat LSU, THE Ohio State, West Virginia, or USC. They'd also probably lose to Florida and Tennessee re-matches, as well as Texas and a handful of other teams. I can even say that Michigan would probably give them a rough contest and a possible loss.

You're actually referring to the old Division I-A, Chris, which has been changed to Football Bowl Subdivision. There's always been a playoff in "Division I College Football", Chris, it's just been part of the Division I-AA, which also has been renamed to "Football Championship Subdivision." The confusion, Chris, comes from there having been a common misnomer of referring to Division I-AA as "Division II"

I have concluded that the old system of bowl games was better than this crap we have now: in the old system, at least everyone knew that "national champion" was arbitrary and ultimately meaningless. Now, it's just as arbitrary and meaningless, but it's dressed up in the clothes of some kind of authority. It's nothing more than snakeoil being sold to us by the SEC and the Rose Bowl and everybody else affiliated with the current system. well fuck you BCS, fuck your greed, fuck your perversion of the game I love.

college football news did a fun "what if" article to show how things would have been different if the BCS has existed in 1985-1989. It's not the point of their article, but the realization is that the BCS really changed nothing in the final rankings. All of the national champions were the same, and mostly it was the lower top-10 teams that got adjusted about.
