Default Cinematic Orchestra or Built to Spill tonight in LA?

Who should I check out tonight? I've yet to see both of them live, and I love their albums. I am leaning towards Built to Spill, since they are playing at a more appropriate venue then Cinematic Orchestra is for their sound. Both are about the same price in tickets too. But Cinematic Orchestra hardly ever comes down to LA! Who would you guys see?

Cinematic Orchestra. That is where I will be tonight. They very rarely tour, like you said, so take the opportunity to see them. Their new album is great, and listening to their live EP found on iTunes and eMusic, they sound fantastic live.

Yeah, I just wish they were playing somewhere else. It doesn't seem like the El Rey is a good fit for them at all. But my gf is really pressuring me to take her to the Cinematic gig, so I might end up just capitulating for that reason.

But Built to Spill on the other hand are supposed to be amazing live. Damn LA and its live music choices!!

Cinematic Orchestra. Saw them last time they came around (spaceland) and that was a fantastic show (it also happened a long time ago so they don't come around that often as others have mentioned). Check craigslist for tickets, someone is selling a pair for $30 last time I looked (this morning) which is dirt cheap.

I ended up seeing Built to Spill, who were amazing. I do feel a little regret that I missed out on Cinematic Orchestra, but in the end, the band at the better venue won out for me.

If Cinematic Orchestra had played at the Fonda, then I probably would of chosen them. For all those that went to Cinematic, how was it? Please don't tell me anything other than " it was ok. " Anything else would just sting.

Honestly, it was fucking awesome. They kicked so much ass it was crazy. And come on, you don't like the El Rey? It's the best venue in town and it worked great for them.

jtov you seriously like the Fonda over the El Rey? how come? cause they have a stadium balcony and a tight roof area? cause that's all i can think of.

Yeah for a performance like Cinematic Orchestra, I would of loved to have had the choice of being able to chill in a seated area, which the Fonda provides with the balcony.

Theres not much room for that in the El Rey, unless I am just not seeing an area for that.

If Built to Spill had been playing at the El Rey, and Cinematic Orchestra had been at the Fonda, then I would of gone to see Cinematic Orchestra, most likely.

Oh well, to me, it was one of those no matter what I do, it'll probably be good decisions I had to make.

The atmosphere was muuuuuuuuch more condusive at the El Rey for Cinematic. Old 1930s nightclub feel for jazzy music was absolutely perfect. It did kind of suck for most of the people who had to stand, yeah. There are tables up in the balcony that you can reserve ahead of time, or they're first come, first served the night of the show. Not many people know about those. they were perfect for last night tho.

The correct answer to this question is Mudhoney/Melvins @ Fonda.
