I was watching this fucking awesome collection of footage from the Eurocekknes (however the fuck you spell it) Festival I think on Showtime last year, and Goldfrapp did like a seven-minute version of Ooh La La. The last five minutes was just her going "ooh la la," and it was fucking awesome.

If Goldfrapp & Portishead were to both make the 2008 lineup my guess would be that Porishead headlines the Main Stage on Friday and Goldfrapp closes out the Outdoor Theater on sunday night. Which brings us to the possible nightmare conflict of Goldfrapp v Radiohead...

I think Saturday is going to sell out almost regardless of who headlines, so they could definitely have Portishead as the headliner that night and have Foo Fighters playing immediately before them to goose sales should there be a need. And headlining the Sahara should be either Chemical Brothers or Underworld, so the festival would be in no danger of not selling out.

I may under (or over) estimate how big Portishead are in the US, but it is quite hard to guage demand when a band has done pretty much fuck all for 7 years. I didn't expect the Nightmare Before Christmas to sell out this year, especially with last years event being a disorganised mess, but this is the power of Portishead.

I gotta go with Malcom on this one. I really like Portishead, but aside from their first single, they never had very broad appeal over here. I used to have a Portishead shirt, and the comment I was greeted with most often was, "What's that?" Great band, but to think that they have a fanbase comparable in size to any of the recent headliners is to romanticize the past.

I'm not sure about their level of popularity...I was just saying that you can't always compare a band's level of popularity straight across the board. Just because a band is close to selling out in the UK doesn't mean they would sell out here. And vice versa (obviously). Didn't Razorlight headline a night at Edinburough? That wouldn't happen here. At least not right now.
