Total Smoking Ban in the US ?????????

So Edwards says he might propose a ban on smoking across the US (in public places) .. What are your thoughts on that … this is a two part question btw .. cr****


As a side bar .. two days ago I go into big mac (I know they suck) , drove up and got my order … then I decided I should go inside and talk to the manager … see, every time I have gone there (a lot) they are always so nice to me, and never screw up my order … so I asked them, could I see the manager, and this woman walks up … she says “could I help you” … so I go on and tell her how great her staff is and how well run the place seems to be … she then says “please wait and let me get you the (real) manager … they sent a peasant because they thought I was going to complain .. Anyway, so I repeat all of that to the real manager .. You would have thought I gave them all a raise the way they acted .. so today, I go back there for the first time since then, drive up, get my order, and go park to eat … I opened up the bag and THEY SCREWED UP MY ORDER .. Ah though, I had an extra double cheese burger and a fry in my bag … so did they screw up, or did they slip one in on me … I think the latter …. Life is so weird … cr****

Yes Ron the forum is fine. but this is the "Total Smoking Ban in the US ??????????" thread. Not the "Oh the Irony of McDonald's Screwing Up My Order Right After I Told Them They Never Screw Up" thread. Which, I have to admit, is pretty damned ironic, and points directly to the folly of human existance, but which, if you think about it, really has nothing at all to do with Sen. Edwards' proposed ban on public smoking, now does it?

Unfortunately I smoke lots cr*** and know it will be the death of me!
I personally thought smoking was banned in most public places in the US example - bars, cafes, libraries, at indoor Gigs etc.
Las Vegas didn't seem too bothered when they kept beating me senseless, in fact they kindly got me drunk for free and lit my cigarettes, yay!

as a smoker, i understand the issues with second hand smoke bothering people and I probably wouldn't mind a smoking ban in INDOOR areas. Places like Vegas really benefit from people staying around to smoke. If you get up from your table to have a smoke, it is easier for you to just walk away and not lose the rest of your mone to the casino.

There are certain citieses that are a bit more ridiculous about smokers handling their business. Some places wont let you smoke within 20 feet of entrances to shops, so you'd have to basically walk in the street if you wanted to have a smoke.

That is what the relatively new ban in Phoenix is like.

I like the short-term results of the ban - I don't do well around smoke - but I voted against it because I don't like the idea of government - or even the people via a proposition - telling businesses how they have to conduct their business.

darn, well i agree with what most people said .... if you are talking 2nd hand smoke issues, then i agree, smoking inDOORS in public places should be banned .... but at a football game, geez, or a concert bigger GEEZ, in boulder you cant smoke on the mall (outside mall), and in colorado most any public place you cant smoke .... but if they tell me i cant smoke inside my house (no kids at home), then screw them ..... people here at my work that "have" to smoke, some, have taken up chewing ... yuck ... but no 2nd hand smoke ... so who knows ... i actually quit for 12 years, hated that i started again, and one day will quit again .. but until then, got a light cr****

On a related note, when I saw Daft Punk in LA last month, there was a point during the 2nd DJ set (right before DP) when I saw about 30 people in individual groups light up a cigarette. Pissed me off because no one seemed to be enforcing that smoking ban. It was also somewhat amusing because the smoking seemed to be catching since I hadn't seen anyone light up before then.

I don't really like any smoke, although I guess cloves smell nice. I just don't like it near me, and if I am outside, I will try to move away if I am able.

I don't really like that I can't smoke at a concert, but I deal with it.
I don't smoke pot, but I won't tell someone to ditch their joint.

Bars I can 'sorta' understand. I mean, I get it...i just enjoy having a smoke with a drink.
Restaurants I can understand completely.
There are a few outdoor sections of restaurants around me that let u smoke and people don't really seem to care one way or the other.

That was not good enough for them! It's totally banned here and thats going to make me live longer. My initial is A, therefore I will now be FIRST in the hospital q along with all the other non-smokers for my geriatric treatment! Ha!
