It says Access Denied. Make sure the disc is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use.

The fucking program is open in my control panel and I have no way of shutting it down. Im downloading that google thing now

If you can download, install and run Malwarebytes that may fix your issue.

It's difficult for most methods to get rid of the nastiest malware.

Really, try MalwareBytes. It has so far been able to clean every infection that other AV software can't clean.

The kid's computer is getting stuck on this message on boot:

    detecting IDE drives

From google searches, it appears I'll need to break open the computer to fix it. I'm not willing to do that. I'm clumsy and I'm afraid I'll break it further. Any idea on how much it will cost to get this fixed?

No shit! After taking mine there once for a $200+ repair, I picked it up and learned I could have done the same thing those morons did by myself, and it wouldn't have cost me a thing! &%$#@^!!!

Yeah, I do fix my own computer most of the time. The sad thing is, the only local shop in this area just closed, so I have no idea where I will go if I DO need help. There are a couple places that do computer repair, but they are not the kind of place you walk into with your computer I think.

"Detecting IDE drives" sounds like it could be one of several things:
    1. Loose or bad cables (easy to fix)
    2. Hard drive died (still easy to fix, but need to reinstall everything)
    3. Controller on MB died (oh crap!)

*giggles* By "fix it myself," I meant like pounding on the keyboard like Dani's avatar, followed by System Restore, then cleaning out the whole damn hard drive unintentionally...(Which was what those geeks did before even attempting to save anything.) I'm also an advocate of pulling the power plug on the thing as I'm cursing, "Now see who's the boss you piece of shit!" LOL

Haha... Yeah, that probably would not work for me. Except the last part, I have SO done that.

Yeah, that last part generally occurs just before the thought of then taking out the backdoor and seeing how far it can fly over the wall and onto Monroe Street! Actually, that's pretty extreme when in fact, I could also set it next to the last two PCs, turning my desk end table into a coffee table. *rolls eyes*

Hm, speaking of which...What does everyone else do with the carcass of a PC before sending it to the PC Gods? I know that supposedly one had an infected hard drive which they recommended forgetting instead of trying to save anything. And the other, I believe, just simply didn't want to play with me anymore.

Seriously, I don't want to just trash it, nor risk having some IT expert find it and refurbish it to get my personal imfo. Do I simply take the drive out and then beat it with a hammer, or do they have ecologically safe methods for it's final burial?

If the computer is fairly recent, within about 5 years old, and possible to fix, you might donate it to someone who can fix it.

If nothing is worth salvaging, you should be taking it to a e-waste disposal site. That's so all the heavy metals don't leach into the ground.

If you're worried about your data on the Hard disk, there are ways to make it unreadable.

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&c...&aq=f&oq=&aqi=

You might try a very strong magnet.

The computer is fairly new; it was built by a friend of my mom's that she works with (his partner does it for a living). If the controller on the motherboard died, wouldn't there be some sort of warning? It just wouldn't boot one day for no reason.

I'm hoping it's the cables that need to be replaced and not the motherboard.

OK so I just got a brand new Dell. Like, I've only used it for less than 3 days and not even that much. Every time I open a page that has any kind of video, my Shockwave add-on or whatever crashes, and I either can hit "Yes" to stop running it or "No". And even before that sometimes, the whole screen just goes pale white and it almost freezes.

    Help please? wtf?

Also, just download the latest versions of whatever plugins aren't working and reinstall them. If that doesn't work, try a different browser.

Yeah, I uninstalled Norton and I have a 1-year Kaspersky subscription that I like that works well.

    And I'm using Google Chrome.

It originally did it on this board with embedded youtube videos. But it does it as well on espn.com when pages have those highlight videos you can click on.
