Default I Want to Talk About David Bowie

Please rank and tell me your favorites and impressions. You're doing something good.

Here are the choices (don't tell me if I left something off, this is personal)

    Space Oddity
The Man Who Sold the World
    Hunky Dory
The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
    Diamond Dogs
    Young Americans
    Low
    Heroes
    Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps)

    Right now I'm at this:

    5. The Man Who Sold the World
    4. Space Oddity
    3. Diamond Dogs
    2. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
    1. Hunky Dory

I possess, but haven't gotten yet to deciding where to place Heroes and Scary Monsters. I don't have Low, I thought I did but I don't. Young Americans has 3 songs I like and too much cheesy saxophone.

Please discuss and contribute to my enrichment.

ps I know you probably already talked about Bowie in that albums thread but I'm vain and lazy. So.

Young Americans was very good for its time. For what it was. I think it might have been more influential in Europe than it was here. Anyways, I might move it up in that list.

I'll get back to you on this.

Your top 5 are probably pretty close, but why Diamond Dogs at #3? What is it about that one that does it for you?

What about David Bowie from Labyrinth? That's another incarnation.

Ziggy Stardust is my favorite though.

    1. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
    2. Low

    5. Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps)

    I don't have:

    • The Man Who Sold the World
    • Hunky Dory
    • Young Americans

I have but you didn't list:

Ninth. But I sort of have misgivings about putting "Low" that high. You're right, this is harder than it looks.

Andrew you should be on AIM right now.

Also I probably have that ep of FOTC on the DVR. I may work up the urge to get up and watch it. But right now I am listening to John Dowland.

It'll make it easier for me to mock you. Or something like that.

The first Bowie album I got was Earthling. Yeah, I'm a ridiculous person. I enjoyed it quite a bit. "I'm Afraid of Americans" was a personal favorite. Then I got Outside which was so much better it wasn't even funny. Then I got Black Tie White Noise which I realize isn't very good overall but "Jump They Say" is a fantastic track and there are some other good ones. Then Heathen came out and I got that and it was ehh.

WAIT!!! NO!! It was ...hours. I never got Heathen.

At any rate I was aware of old Bowie and really liked the songs "Space Oddity" and "Heroes" for example but his was a vast and confusing catalog and I never quite jumped in.

Then I got convinced that I would love the Berlin albums and got Low and everything changed. Cause damn. And then came the random stab into The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and yeah, yummy.

Meg should qualify her question with a list of her own. She's right, but she should still qualify it.

    Whiskey Sour

    2 oz blended whiskey
    Juice of 1/2 lemon
    1/2 tsp powdered sugar
    1 cherry
    1/2 slice lemon

Shake blended whiskey, juice of lemon, and powdered sugar with ice and strain into a whiskey sour glass. Decorate with the half-slice of lemon, top with the cherry, and serve.
