Default MBV: In the Sahara or Mainstage?

This is a odd poll but I was thinking yesterday on the bus, while listening to To Here Knows When, if they did get MBV what would be more fitting? Sahara or on the main stage before whatever headliner?

This is the most stupid fuckin poll ever! That would be another Daft Punk faux paux. Yeah lets put the headliner for one night in the Sahara, what a great idea! Lets put artists that more than 35,000 people are gonna wanna see underneath a tent that holds 15,000! Oh yeah its already been done twice I forgot.

Agreed that the poll is stupid -- how in the hell do you suppose that MBV would play in the dance tent? Even Boards of Canada don't belong there. But I don't know that it's tantamount to Daft Punk being in the Sahara 'cause they were the electronic headliner and the Sahara is where the electronic headliner performs. (I know, Chems in '03 and Tiesto this year did the main stage, but Chems were the last electronic artist to play the main stage until Tiesto. I think the response to Daft Punk's set could have been what set the stage for Tiesto closing out the main stage this year.)

    Did anybody actually watch Tiesto?

And why would MBV play the Sahara? Not remotely dance music, Jesus Christ. Main stage at sunset would be perfection.

Faithless is the Sahara this year was perfect.

Prodigy in the Sahara 3 years ago was perfect.

LCD Soundsystem, Soulwax Nite Versions were both perfect for the Sahara.

None of these acts are DJs.

While not DJs per say most people put them into that category. Let me refinbe the statement: If they're not EDM acts keep them the fuck out of the Sahara.

Yeah -- actually, I don't know about Underworld 'cause when I saw 'em at Coachella in '03, it was in Sahara, so if they did the main stage, it was a year I didn't attend -- but I was just illustrating how long it had been since dance acts had performed on the Coachella stage. (I guess the last dance act would have actually been Prodigy in '02 since they played on Sunday that year while the Chemical Brothers did Saturday, but still, the point was made.)

Boourns: it sure looked like there were at least a few dozen people enjoying Tiesto's set. I only stuck around for a few minutes myself but I've heard from a couple people that they Enjoyed him.

Prodigy played the mainstage before Oasis in 2002 and headlined the Sahara in 2005...

Hopefully MBV doesn't grace us with their presence. unless the conflict with a legit act.
On a side note though, i think it's cool when they have more traditional bands playing in the Sahara. mixes things up a bit. Maybe they'll have Two Sahara tents next year!
Superfan will be in front of the Fonda masturbating furiously to a photo of him taking a photo of a band. Set is from 8:05 to approximately 8:05:15. Guest list only.

Upcoming Shows: Marques Wyatt - UCLA, Paul Mccartney - Dodger Stadium, Yes - Greek Theater, Herbie Hancock - Hollywood Bowl, NIN/Soundgarden - Hollywood Bowl, Cut Chemist/Dj Shadow - Palladium, Massive Attack SB Bowl

you wouldn't have to do that though. I got there right before the Arctic Monkeys and was able to get 5 rows back from the front row center stage for JAMC.

I seriously doubt that jungle music had any influence on "Loveless". Unless you heard it outta Kevin Shields mouth during an interview then thats complete bullshit. Jungle music at that time was quite rudimentary & primarily Ragga or jump up. Intelligent progressive drum n bass like LTJ could've been an influcence but jungle no way! I don't see any correlation between the two at all. There is nothing really breakbeat about the "Loveless" album. I know that it cost them $500,000 to produce that album & it was state of the art mixing & sound engineering for its time & still to this day really. Its regarded so highly for the guitar work on it that its listed in Guitar magazine as one of the top 100 greatest guitar works of all time. And for the record just about every MBV song is a dance track to me!

Yes, he stated that in an interview. I think it was a guitar magazine interview but I know you can find it online. I was surprised when I read it too. And THANK YOU! Someone who agrees with MBV being dance...well Loveless anyways...

Hey, why not put Tool in the dance tent? I read their drumming described as tribal in a magazine, so that means they are a dance act!

The Sahara Tent, although having limited space, makes it difficult to not want every show there.
