I did Bluesapalooza in Mammoth this weekend, a huge beer fest. My favorite was Mammoth Brewing's Apocalypse lager, a lager brewed with Mexican Sage, Palo Santo and Mexican Vanilla. So smooth.

I have I really like their beer. I have yet to have chocolate rain or any of their beer on tap. Fruet was amazing. Mischief I enjoyed. Melange No. 3 was good but expensive. The Saison Rue is the go to.

Damn, I need to road trip on my Speed Triple at some point... and this looks like a good reason! Guernville/Russian River also has some great wineries. And just up the road is Healdsburg and the Alexander Valley- the best region for CA wines, in my opinion.

I put my third batch of homebrew in the swamp cooler this afternoon. It's an American IPA. The IBUs should end up around 40 because I went with a lot of late addition hops to keeps the bitterness low and the flavor and aroma high. I've been drinking a bunch of commercial brews this evening and they all smell amazing since my nasal cavity is completely filled with hop residue after standing over the kettle for an hour-hour and a half.

First beer in a year tonight, almost a year old Surly Darkness. I think I need to get my palate back, this isn't as amazing as I had hoped it would be.

Went to a baby shower last weekend. Among the beers that were served were Cantllon Fou' Foune, 2007 Barrel-Aged Speedway Stout, Batch 2 Consecration, Alpine Double Nelson and a keg of Sculpin. It was the only baby shower I've ever had fun at.

I'm not the biggest fan of New Belgium beers, but I had a great time visiting the brewery in Ft. Collins a couple summers ago.

I was disappointed by it when I had it as well. While good, it doesn't taste like much more than your average Imperial Stout. I'd personally choose Stone IRS over it.

last night house of schwan (local distributor) had a release party for deschutes brewery's official entry into kansas. i was able to get a glass of black butte porter XXIV. that shit was absolutely delicious. couldn't taste the 11%, but you could most definitely feel it

Agreed fully, Surly Four on the other hand was out of this world. They should swap recipes and make that their seasonal.

I am just now drinking Surly Syx which is unfuckwithable, I don't think I have ever had a beer this bold, flavorful, and downright ballsy this color. It has the character and intensity of Goose Island's Bourbon Stout with the color and drinkability of Bell's Two Hearted, way dangerous. Great story behind the bottle art
