That's one of the tougher bottles to find. I heard this year's Jamaican coffee one is easier to find.

Fuck , I forgot all about Jamaican Coffee Speedway Stout which I would like just as much if not more. I hope to figure out if I'm going to go down to San Diego for my bday which sometimes falls on Night of the a million zillion speedway stouts or if I'll just wait till after the new Alesmith Brewery opens up. Either way I'm really in the mood for a Speedway stout soon because they are marked up a couple more dollars than normal in the Bay Area to $13.99 to 15.99. I tend to always over look the bottle in the stores....... If anyone is reading this who loves Coffee stouts and has not had a glass of Alesmith's Speedway Stout. I strongly suggest seeking one out in the future.

both the Vietnamese and Jamaican Speedway varietals are brewery-only releases, so I wouldn't say one is easier to find than the other.

i might be able to hook you up, getbetter. would you want me to ship it to you? hold it until you come to SD? try to get it to you in LA before FYF?

Oh I didn't know you were going to Fyf. That would be awesome if you could do that. If there any breweries you want to try that kinda local to my area, tell me.

So I had another RuinTen this weekend and this one was so much better. I don't know if the last one was just a bad batch or was stored wrong or something but it just wasn't right.

Beachwood's new double IPA Greenshift is so great. It might be better then their Melrose. Fantastic beer to celebrate their 3rd anniversary; bottles are heading out to their normal spots this week.

Was it a malty ipa ? Or what kind of hop characteristics did you taste?

No not malty at all. Heavy on the citra like the melrose but more of a resiny bite to it up front.

...so fresh, it was put in a keg June 26th

Self-serve beer stations. Liberating technology, or soulless scourge?

If it can keep lines efficient at a ball park, I think it's a great idea. I have been to bars that have self-serve tap built into the tables as well. Unless you really want to talk to somebody to get suggestions or to just bullshit, there is almost reason to reason to have bartenders serving beer at all, save for technical issues.

So last night a buddy and I decided to go to Total Wine and create our own six pack of beers we've never had before and split each one.

Started off with Stone Oaked Arrogant Bastard. It basically just tastes like the regular one with Oak flavor to it. It's not any better or worse then the regular but I would drink again.

The Dudes Double Trunk. My favorite of the night by far. Has a citrus/tropical taste to it. High ABV at 10.8% but hides the alcohol taste really well. Would recommend it

Abita Purple Haze. This one was decided on pure name alone without actually looking at it was. Was a raspberry ale. I'm not a big fan of overpowering fruit taste so I wasn't that big into it but for what it was it was decent enough.

Oskar Blues Old Chub NITRO. Have had the original Old Chub before. This basically tasted the same as the regular but a lot smoother. Easiest one to drink because of it smoothness even with it's 8% ABV. If you like the regular one I would recommend it.

Hazed and Infused from Boulder Beer Co. Had a caramel taste to it but other then that was just your standard Pale Ale. It was good but didn't stand out as anything special to me.

Golden Road Get Up Offa That Brown. Very good choice to end with. Has a nutty and chocolate taste to it. Easy to drink. If you are one for Brown Ales I don't see who you wouldn't like this one.

Double Trunk has been a go-to for me lately, it's really good and at $10.99 for a 6 pack of 16oz cans and 10.8% abv, it's some of the best bang for your buck right now.

I think Swami's might be my absolute favorite beer that I can regularly buy right now though. I am constantly amazed at how good it is.

I don't understand how a canned beer can claim to be nitro.

    From a press release:

"OLD CHUB NITRO utilizes an existing widget technology developed by Ball. The Nitro widget is attached to the bottom of the can and is charged with liquid nitrogen during the filling process. The widget releases the nitrogen when the can is opened, liberating the cascading creamy smooth nitro pour."

And apparently they have been releasing small batch canned "nitro" versions of Dale's Pale, G'Knight, and a couple others since 2009.

I really would like it if I could buy The Dude Brewery beers up here.

A widget is what you hear where you shake a empty Boddingtons or a Guinness can or maybe even bottles I haven't had one in a really long time.

The Seal Beach one but not the Long Beach one (where the brewery is). Both are close enough to me but it's a 10 minute drive compared to a 20 minute drive.

I still have not been to Beachwood, but Heather went for a birthday party on a night I was working late a couple months ago and brought some food home for me - it was fucking goooood.

Also, I was able to buy a bottle of Thrillseeker IPA 2 months ago and it was amazing. I also love label.

Looked around for a 6 pack but was only to find 4 packs for that same price. I still think it's a good bang for your buck even with the 4 though.

My birthday tomorrow so I picked up that and also got some Pranqster which I've never had before.

So I am moving to New Mexico in a few weeks so I am just trying to get some local brews while I still have easy access to them. What are some other good local Southern California breweries I should try before I leave?

Had this on tap tonight as a halfway point treat on a long ride:

THe oyster flavor was very subtle. Wasted on my palate.

Enjoyable roasted coffee flavor is what stays with me from this Black IPA.

That's pretty original. I like the salty taste from oysters. I have never tried BAXTER or DC Brau or heard of them till now.

Tonight's treat chilling as we speak:

Kept a bottle of Samuel Adams Double Agent IPL (which was surprisingly good) to do some (blind) taste-testing.

The Jack's Abbey is on the board as the early favorite.

My buddy from the east cost mailed me these three for my birthday about a week ago. I plan on aging them a bit as they are all bourbon-barrel aged stouts.

the Message he sent: "First up, Brooklyn's Black Ops is a crazy BBAS bottle conditioned with champagne yeast. Second, Founders' KBS is a crazy delicious chocolate/coffee/oatmeal stout aged in BBs and one of my favorites. And lastly, Bell's Black Note is a beer that we only got one case of, and we're only one of thirteen accounts in the entire state that got one. Two years ago there was a knife fight over this beer, in Michigan, where the goddamn thing is brewed."
