Just had the latest batch of Stone's Enjoy By. That is the best batch of it I have had of it. Citrus overload to it. If you are a fan of citrus flavors I highly recommend it.

I picked up a few bottles of Kern River's Outstanding IPA from my local liquor store (never drank this beer before) and a bottle of the latest Stone's Enjoy By (I've had 5 since they were released last Thursday) Can't wait to drink them tonight!

Has anyone tried Kern River's Outstanding IPA?

I enjoy it. That's a surprise they're making it to ventura county as their distribution is really bad.

Yeah, that is what the liquor store clerk said. I must of showed up at the right time since it was 1 per person and I was with 2 other other friends that don't drink craft beer, score!

I enjoyed it and thought it was a solid IPA with lots of citrus/pine notes but I wouldn't go out of my way to find more.

Two nice pieces of beer news this week:

-- AleSmith is expanding into a new facility that will enable them to eventually make 10x the amount of beer, as well as make cheese, a passion of owner Peter Zien's.

-- Bell's is going to start distributing to Southern California.

    Why only Southern California?

My birthday is this weekend so I picked up:

    - Stone's Stochasticity Grapefruit Slam IPA
    - Almanac Golden Gate Gose
    - Stone's Matt's Burning Rosids Imperial Cherry Smoked Saison
    - The Bruery's Saison de Lente

I'm not a super big fan of Saison but the Matt's Burning Rosids is very very good. It's a tribute beer to a brewer of theirs that died so they weren't missing around with it.

I'm glad Southern California is getting Bells. I drink their Two Hearted almost every time I am out. Their HopSlam is a favorite and so is their Oberon.

Yeah but how fresh are these Bell Brewery beers going to be to a lot of people who never had one. I am so happy about Alesmith since I find their beers to be really good.I haven't had Speedway in a long time since every bottle I find up here is $14.99 or $15.99 . I might fly down to San Diego for my Bday and celebrate the "Night of a Million Zillion Speedway Stouts".

Bells puts batch numbers on their bottles so you can look on their website to see the bottling date. I will probably buy some Two Hearted when it first arrives here, but there are so many better IPAs in SD that it won't be something I buy often. I'm excited to get Expedition Stout, though. Hopslam is overrated but I'm sure I'll tick some each year when the new batch is out.

I think they're starting in Southern California and once they get established here may work their way up the coast, Guedita.

The new AleSmith facility will have a new bottling line that will include 12-oz bottles. It'll be great to get four-packs of Speedway Stout. I will probably still buy kegs to have at home because they age so well...

Ugh, just noticed that for now it's San Diego and Imperial counties, I'm sure some LA stores will smuggle the shit in. I'm excited for Two Hearted and Expedition.

I love both of those, I don't think I've tried the Logsdon, though. I didn't even make it through the beers I did buy for my birthday, because on the actual day we went to the Sierra Nevada Torpedo Room in Berkeley for a private tasting event. We got to try:

    - Beer Camp Test Dummies Kolsch, which was made with 100 pounds of kiwi (it was my favorite)
    - Audition Off Kilter Scotch Ale
    - Harvest Single Hop Yakima #291
    - Double IPA, which was REALLY smooth and drinkable...it didn't really taste at all like a DIPA to me.
    - Brandy Barrel Quad, which they tapped just for the event. The smell was intense...huge kick at 12.3%
    - Ovila Abbey Quad w/Plums

I had the Valley of the Heart's Delight last weekend. Great stuff. I'm a big fan of apricot sours and it's a good one. I had it at Barrel Republic, a place where you pour your own beers. It was a special Rip Current event and there were 20 Rip Current taps on, and I love Rip Current beers, but I still had to pour myself the Valley of the Hearts Delight to my heart's delight.

It wasn't nitro, Ryan (who runs the Torpedo room) had a 5 gallon keg that he tapped just for this event.

Also, it's just called "Double IPA." Here's the press description:

This is a true "West-Coast" style double IPA using huge amounts of hops, both in the kettle for flavor, and afterwards in the Torpedo to impart a massive hop aroma. The light malt body and dry finish hide the power in this deceptively drinkable hop-bomb.
I think it's only at the Torpedo room and at the main Chico brewery. It was really, really good.

The brewer/co-owner is a friend of mine. He made awesome home brews for years before opening Rip Current, and I'm really happy that he has done so well at scaling up his recipes.

I went to the new Ramirez liquor store today. It is in what used to be a grocery store - it's fucking humongous. I picked up a number of 22oz bottles, mainly a variety of IPAs, as well as a 4 pack and a 6 pack. Tonight I had a bomber of Stone's newest Enjoy By, 2 bottles of their To Go IPA, and a tall can of Modern Times' Black House oatmeal coffee stout. All were delicious.

The other day I went to Pat Holden's Liquor in Oxnard. I somehow stumbled upon their Instagram and I'm glad I did! Pretty solid selection and Jay, the guy who runs their IG, was there and went above and beyond to talk to me and give me a free beer and a little bit of a discount. Go check them out!

Pat Holden's is great, they are always really helpful & great selection of craft beers. One thing I noticed is that you have to be careful since some beers don't get rotated often and may have been sitting there for close to a year. I've been going there to get my Go To IPA by Stone & 20/20 IPA by Golden Road, my go to beers lately.

    Cheers.

Last night, Zack and I tried some new stuff from Cellarmaker and Altamont Beer Works, 2 consistently good breweries up here:

    - Cellarmaker Mo'Citra (IPA, very smooth. not as hop-heavy as some of their other IPAs)
    - Cellarmaker Crush a Bale (session pale ale, citrus notes)
    - Altamont Mac Drizzle (Black IPA - fucking delicious).

I also had the Widmer Brothers/Cigar City Gentleman's Club Rye. But I don't really remember much about it.

Explicate. I thought it was a decent IPA. No Deschuettes Freshly Squeezed, sure, but for a big brewery.
