Currently at a Taphouse in Duluth MN drink a craft beer that has hops from 23 different countries. The batch had 1 lb of hops put in per hour over a day. Made for the Olympics.
Also, Low is playing here for free in 38 minutes and the place fits no more than 100 people.

Finally got a Bear Republic Racer X. It basically just taste like a more bitter hoppier Racer 5. I'm not mad because Racer 5 might be my favorite IPA, but I guess I was just expecting something different. But I guess a double IPA is just basically more hoppier and bitter with a higher ABV.

Also finally picked up my first 6 pack of Flying Dog. Went with the the Double Dog Double IPA. It's a double IPA kind of night. I'm excited though never had had Flying Dog before. Always wanted to because I have always loved the label artwork but every time I went to the store I always saw something I wanted more.

Chai in beer? I mean I love Chai tea but Chai beer just sounds crazy to me. Don't get me wrong I am going to try it if I see it but that just sounds strange.

    It tastes like beer.

I haven't ever had any of these "special ingredient/flavor" beers that haven't still overwhelmingly tasted like beer.

Someone should make me a fucking chai tea latte that tastes like beer.

I've been sipping on Great Basin's Outlaw milk stout over the weekend. Super smooth, good coffee and chocolate notes and just a bit creamy. I really dig it and love that we can get it here now. I also had a brew from Rubicon (can't remember the name) that was really fantastic. I'll come back with the name when I buy another bottle.

I met up with Stink at the Surly Taproom earlier today to try their Asator Viking IPA.
“Asator, Surly Viking IPA, is a beer fit for battle, fermented on oak with a ruddy brown color,” Haug says. “The ale was brewed with peated, brown and crystal malts to create a shield wall of malt flavors, only to be hacked apart by a swinging sword of hops!

Oh man Jeff if you can send me some surly and New Glarus Serendipity . I'll start working on a box of Northern California beer beginning with my next paycheck. Also I have two bottles for stinky that I might included.

Yesterday, Cara and I went to the Celebrator 26th Anniversary party. We took public transportation and it turns out there was a shuttle for beer festival goers to and from the metro stop.We learned about this Beer Social club in the Bay Area which gives you discounts to beer events. The beer event glasses we got were nice with Trumer Brauerei on the glass, which was where the festival held at and a logo of Celebrator along with 26th anniversary etch on.The festival had unlimited pours, all the food you could eat which was pulled pork sandwiches, fried pickles,a bunch of different cheeses, and artisanal coffee. Also Trumer Brauerei had tours ran every thirty minutes. There was a half barrel of Pliny the Younger, I got three decently size pours of in less than 40 minutes.Another great thing about this festival which we saw online there was less than fifty tickets left and they ran out of festival glasses is the fact it was not crowded and you did not have to wait long to get anything Which normally at a beer festival it seems to be almost a festival of waiting in line for things.

We are now thinking about going to the Bacon and Beer Festival next month in Oakland.

I had a Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout yesterday. I'm not a real big coffee person so I have no idea what prompted me to get it but I have to say I quite enjoyed it. There was a coffee taste but it wasn't overbearing at all. Just a nice hint of it that really complimented the stout taste really well. I would drink again if I was ever in the mood for a coffee beer again.

I love Coffee beers. The bitterness goes really well together and if you can get a hold of a fresh IPA with coffee added is a real treat.Locally for people in Southern California I would point in the direction of Claremont Craft Ales for their Coffee Del beer which is fantastic along with all of their beers, next time anyone is going to a Fox theatre Pomona or The Glass House.

Creep: meant to mention that I had the New Glarus Serendipity during the Super Bowl (by far the highlight of the evening).

Truly an exceptional beverage; it achieved a balance of flavor that I wouldn't have expected out of a beer, or really, anything else I've ever tried. It was so perfectly tart -- it took you right to the edge of sour before washing over the palate with all of these strange and wonderfully sweet fruit notes. Really an incredible and playful beverage, and I can't thank you enough for sending it my way.

The Celebrator beer festival yesterday at Traumer Braurei in Berkeley was a ton of fun. We got to take a tour of the brewery, Cypress Grove Chevre was there with tons of delicious cheese, it was never very crowded and I definitely got to have some delicious beers. 10 minute line right when the festival started for Pliny the Younger - I got two pours of that, then a Supplication. Anchor's Our Barrel Ale was one of the standouts for me....enjoyed Drake's Hopocalypse as well. Thirsty Bear's stave session cherry was not good at all. I forget what else I drank because a few of the breweries had special SF beer week releases that I don't see on their websites. Shiner had some sort of red rye ale and the dude poured my glass completely to the top because TEXAS.

I was in LA for the weekend and had some really good beers. We got an Epic Sour-Apple Saison, which I really enjoyed. The tartness offset the grassy flavor really well, and there was just a bit of sweetness in there. It was a nice afternoon porch beer. Later in the evening a friend brought over a few Bruery beers. I can't remember for sure, but I think the first was a Rueuze. Whatever it was, it was exceptionally tart and tangy. There was even a slight funk in it, and it definitely reminded me of some of the odder Belgian sours I've had. Good, not great. I quite preferred the Melange, which is a mix of the Oude Tart sour and Black Tuesday, their cherry chocolate stout. It was tart, chocolaty, sweet and malty, and really interesting.

The next day we did a record club sorta thing at Drinkey's place. I remember trying Sticky Toffee Pudding by Wells, and it tasted quite similar to its namesake: very sweet, buttery and slightly creamy. Tallguy and I each brought a Drake's Hopocalypse, which is super hoppy and also very flavorful. I hadn't tried it before and I was very pleasantly surprised. We tried a few more things that I can't recall (I brought a really good Kentucky bourbon barrel stout whose name I can't recall for the life of me.) That evening I shared both a Grapefruit Slam Ale by Stochasticity, which was good and had strong hints of its namesake fruit, and a Cascade Kriek Ale, which was wickedly tart and very drinkable.

I stopped at the Bruery in Placentia on my way home from LA on Saturday. They were offering growler fills of BeRazzled and I couldn't resist getting one. It's a sour raspberry beer with tons of raspberry flavor but it's not all that sour. Super drinkable. Mrs gazercmh drank a pint from the growler and I drank the other three-plus pints, all in one evening. I could've had more, it was so tasty. When I was at the Bruery tasting room I blended some of the BeRazzled with their Rueuze, and that made for a very nice beer. I was tempted to open a bottle of Rueuze to blend with the growler, but that would've been too much beer for that night...
