hogwarts will have to open at some point because she expressly states someone comes back as a teacher. if it was closed forever that wouldn't happen.

and i can't see harry being a horcrux for one more good reason. when voldemort possesses harry at the ministry of magic, he tells dumbledore to kill him [harry]. 7 horcruxes he may have made, but it is highly unlikely that he would be so cavalier about them as to volunteer to have them destroyed.

It comes out while I'm in Louisiana. I've never gone at midnight before, either. But, you know. I've never completely crossed it off my list.

Edit: also, I've got to step up on the reply speed.

Harry losing his powers would be tragic. Too tragic, I think. Although I am pretty sure it is not just going to be some simple face off where Harry or Voldemort die. There must be some insane twist at the end. Although, I am pretty sure Voldemort will die. Finally being destroyed for good. I also don't think she will continue Harry Potter after this. Who knows if she will even write after this, haha, she doesn't need to anyways. It would be cool if she wrote other books that took place in this wizardry world, but about totally different things (and not spin off books, just new stories about other people facing different events).

ok, but then there are still problems. remember in the prophecy where it says "neither can live while the other survives"? that means that both simply can't be alive. one or both has to be dead.
if both, you could assume that harry will destroy himself and then get someone else to finish off voldemort. however this is impossible because the prophecy refers to one person with the power to kill voldemort - and since voldemort chose harry to be the one referenced, harry it is. if harry kills himself then no one can kill voldemort and the prophecy and basically the whole order of the phoenix book are a joke.
if only one dies: that can't happen. if harry was a horcrux and didn't know it and tried to kill voldemort, he wouldn't die. and if voldemort killed harry, you'd have the same conundrum with no one else being able to kill voldemort. which i guess is possible but i refuse to believe rowling would both kill harry and let voldemort go off on his merry way. one or the other, maybe, not both.

also what it basically boils down to is believing dumbledore's analysis or not. i do, so i think harry is not a horcrux.

seriously. harry potter inspires a fervor in some of us.

i don't feel bad about it though, because for me it's an era-defining series. it came out when i was in 7th grade and now the last one is coming out my third year of college - that represents a lot of time and basically all of my formative years.

Shh. Go bother Tessa about LOST.

Which reminds me, I watched the Forbidden Planet today and now I'm more certain that LOST is more like the Forbidden Planet than anything else.

Yeah I've basically been the same age as Harry for a lot of the books.

oops, it came out in the US when i was in 6th grade. but i didn't read it until 7th grade so there you go. and when i did i was 11, same age as harry.

of course now i'm older than the characters but it was still a nice little connection.

me too. i will shed a bitter tear partly because that would just suck and partly because that would make me wrong.

embarrassing fact: i got rather emotional when both sirius and dumbledore died.

Count me as a lazy fucker. saw movie 5 tonight, enjoyed it. I don't understand why Voldemort doesn't have a nose though. I mean the guy can summon the powers of hell but can't afford reconstructive plastic surgery?

That 8 hour time difference is gonna come in handy.

I heard that just before the end, Harry goes ahead and orders a plate of onion rings for the table--best in the state.

Tom. Voldemort is becoming a snake-like creature, mainly because his soul is so fragmented.

it won't matter because all the in-store festivities start before you'd be done with the book. and once i get it i'm not putting it down until i'm done.
i figure that at 784 pages i can be done in 5-6 hours. probably closer to 5 because it'll be such a quick read.

I have always read the books from start to finish within 3 days of purchase, and in under 8 hours on a weekend.

yeah, they've never taken me too long. i'm a fast reader normally but when it's a book with a lot of dialogue and action and when i'm dying to know how it ends i read crazy fast. if i am extremely motivated i could probably finish this one in 4.5 hours or so.

A friend at Costco reserved the book for me. Score! I'm nervous about the dying people. I don't think Harry will die. I don't see how that could happen without it being lame.

anyone have theories on which non-magical character performs magic in desperate circumstances? or how the two-way mirror crops up again? or what there will be about time travel? (it's probably in there because she was evasive during interviews.)

edit: also she said there was a reason sirius had to die. any thoughts on why?
