I read this on a website over there....
Smashing Pumpkins are strongly rumoured to be reforming this summer for live shows - with Coachella touted as their comeback.
Singer Billy Corgan has made no secret of the fact he wants to reform his old band, and NME.COM has learned the band are set to make their comeback at the Californian festival on April 30.

could this be really possible'???????
"shut my mind... and carry my body anywhere"
No they are actually playing the 31st of April, be there or be square!
What the fuck is wrong with this thread?
As I said in my "reasons not to go post" the Pumpkins are a bottle that needed to be aged a bit longer. I've seen them 3 times and they delivered once partly because they played Drown along with some Gish cuts & Swervedriver opened for them. I speak from experience. They are hit or miss live so take that into consideration if yr hopin a plane to Germany this Summer.
Obviously they aren't holding out for Lollapalooza, so why not play Coachella a month before these gigs?
maybe they'll play Bonnaroo and I'll get to see them there. We'll know by Feb 14.... hope so!
Read my Coachella articles: http://www.coachella.ehow.com/
Bands I'd love to see at Coachella '08: West Indian Girl, Menomena, The 88, Pigeon John
i hope they headline saturday night. that would be awesome.
Yes they are hit or miss live. I've seen them play like shit.
It could be the Smashing Pumpkins are not playing Coachella because they were not asked to play. I read an interview of someone who worked for Goldenvoice. The interview was done shortly after Coachella happened last year. In the inverview they said they never made an offer to Smashing Pumpkins. And they did confirm the Smiths were offered $5 million last year and they turned it down.
i think they probably wanted too much money and they thought rage was a better choice. which it probably is ore of a draw, after all the pumpkins probably will play lolla
Billy's in Glasgow tonight. A fave band of mine back in the day. Coachella next year?
Dede' Arneaux
Come a long long, come a long long way
i wouldnt mind them but i highley doubt it,.
the band didnt reunite this year. they have just been releasing re-issues of past albums so why would Lolla even want to book Billy & friends?
I wouldnt oppose a smashing pumpkins set but would rather Just see a billy solo set. Their concert here in utah in 2008 was really cool even w/o the original members. The music speaks for itself.
Lord Huron -> C2C -> Beardyman -> Pete Tong -> Lee Scratch Perry -> Modest Mouse -> Beach House -> Purity Ring -> Jurassic 5 -> How to Destroy Angels -> Birdy Nam Nam -> Allen Stone -> The Selecter -> Puscifer -> Violent Femmes -> Simian Mobile Disco -> Moby -> Wild Belle -> Grimes -> James Blake -> Pretty Lights -> Wu-Tang -> OMD -> Roni Size & Dynamite Mc -> Dead Can Dance
I would prefer everything before Adore.
Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness as a full album done with a stage production similar to the album artwork and the "Tonight, Tonight" music video would be fucking stellar.
Now do it Billy, Mugwog bids so.
actually if they did what they did on this recent us leg i'd so be there. set lists were fantastic. especially the stuff form pisces.

SP rarely put on a good live show. The only time I enjoyed seeing them was opening up for Kiss at Dodger stadium for the 98 Halloween psycho circus show. They were dressed as the Beatles and played for like 45 minutes. Their headlining Lolla set was a big disappointment and that was the original lineup playing Gish and Siamese Dream material. Not a lot of energy or production---just going through the motions. Billy doesn't connect with the crowd at all.
^ he connected very well when he was here.
Why do people dislike Adore so much? Its not the best but still a good album even though it was mostly a solo album by billy.

I saw the Pumpkins in August 2000. Wouldn't see them again and it was obviously over. I also saw one of the rare 2001 New Order Area One gigs with Corgan where he added next to nothing.
There isn't enough time to pull together a reunion for 2012. Billy has European dates booked, not sure if Perfect Circle has any studio commitments. No idea about Jimmy. D'Arcy needs to find reality and a new face...
Recently, an autograph collector got reamed by Billy for several minutes by trying to complete a Siamese Dream vinyl with only Corgan missing. He got the other autographs in the 90's.

Corgan's got that whole Teagarden by Kaleidoscope concept album to promote, why in the hell would he delay that to have the original lineup perform. They've had a big falling out, it's not gonna happen for now. The new stuff is awful and i dont wanna hear oceania songs
Blink-182 w/New Politics & Atlas Genius September 18 @ SB Bowl
Thirty Seconds to Mars October 12 @ Hollywood Bowl
Corgan's trying a hail Mary with the new studio album (Oceana) It will very likely flop.
The band could have booked the sunset slot as a way to promote it. I don't think they are a draw unless there's an original lineup reunion and/or they play Siamese or Mellon Collie in full.
Obviously a combination of both would be a headlining no brainer. However the relationship with Live Nation alone makes that unlikely, in addition to the other obstacles mentioned above.
