Autograph Signings

I didn't do any myself this year, but I was wondering what everyone else's experiences were not only with the Virgin Mobile tent signings, but running into other people and getting their autographs and how that went for you.

Also this could be a good place to put any advice as to how you ought to properly get an artist to autograph/sign something of yours (or when to show up, etc.).

The autograph tent was pretty poorly organized, in my experience. I went over there to get autographs from The Fratellis and The Rapture on Saturday. The Fratellis didn't show, which is reasonable I guess, seeing as they had just played a set. I went over to The Rapture line and discovered that they had decided to leave a half-hour early. Then I waited around and got an autograph from LCD Soundsystem. It was ultimately worth it, seeing as I got to discuss Thomas Pynchon and William Gaddis with James Murphy, a once in a lifetime kind of thing, but still, all of the disorganization made me miss most of The New Pornographers. While I was standing for The Fratellis Ghostface Killah canceled too. Fortunately, the next day when I went to get autographs from Air, it was much better organized.

they need to make it known that you need to buy the album there if you want to get it signed. i waited a half an hour for tom morello before the virgin staff walked over and asked to see my cd which i had no idea i had to purchase in order to get signed...it was a waste of time...

I got Regina Spektor's autograph. I was going for TGTB&TQ, but... When I went to buy their CD in the tent, I saw that they were cancelled, so I bought her album instead.

I giggled like a schoolgirl to myself when I saw Amy Winehouse cancelled. Big surprise there.

It wasn't like that in years past. Afterall - don't most of us already have the discs if we are waiting in line for them?

I used to take a pocketful of cd sleeves and stick in my bag - but i no longer can do that

The ONLY one I went to was Mike Patton... I mean Peeping Tom.

I was waiting for Damien Marley, but after waiting for 20 minutes after he was already suposed to be on... I got frusterated/bored and went to get Mike Pattons autograph because there was still 40 minutes left in his signing.
So I get there, wait 10-15 minutes, then all of a suddeny everyone in front of me starts dispursing. Im like "WTF mate?" He cancelled.
He just got up an left.
Rumours are someone brought him a Faith No More booklet to sign.

I got in line over a half hour early for the CSS signing (Lovefoxxx!!!), but, alas, they didn't show. What the hell? Oh Lovefoxxx, my heart is broken.

There were three signings I was hoping for: Jarvis, Blonde Redhead, and CSS, and the only one scheduled ended up being cancelled.

Patton and Automator were there for less than their scheduled amount of time... but it wasn't their choice to leave early. I was next in line when they shut it down. The band's manager apparently had them scheduled for an interview or something and decided to cut the signing short.

I wouldn't know if somebody gave Patton a FNM booklet to sign, but he was in good spirits for the 20 or so minutes I could see him.

I had a sexy boy shirt I bought a few years ago at AIR's KCMO show and I carried it around all day expecting it to be signed.

But I met them and they asked if I liked the Beastie Boys. *dies*

I'm the proud owner of my second Pocket Symphony CD. But goddamnit, it made my weekend.

I think I managed a ''ughh hello, I love you'' or something close.

He walked into the normal crowd area then, and nobody seemed to notice.

I find it distressing that there aren't more people who completely and hopelessly hate the Dresden Dolls. Tattooed eyebrows are just one more reason.

Well, they are an amazing band so there's absolutely no reason to hate them. Not liking a video or eyebrows are not valid reasons. It's like hating Radiohead because of Jonny's arm brace or Thom's lazy eye. And the eyebrows are drawn on with a Sharpie (see the video for "Girl Anachronism"), not tattooed.

I agree with Boourns. They are amazingly talented, they have a zest for showmanship (as opposed to half a dozen terrible bands I know of who're trying to relieve their shoegazer rock days... literally) and they're probably one of the most unique bands currently playing. It's one thing to be able to say a good band sounds like so-and-so, it's entirely another to say that they have their own sound, and the Dolls, they not only have their own sound, they fucking own it.

Thank you. It's so unreal the sounds and especially the energy, intensity, passion, and sexual tension that comes from those two, especially live. Fuck the White Stripes, bring on the Dresden Dolls.

Are you fucking serious? "Cook to like" bands are pitchfork bands that are used as hipster status symbols and they never cover Dresden Dolls news, so...
