Won't Garnett have to agree to cut a lot of dough out of his contract to be able to make the trade work?

If he does, that shows he's more committed to winning than money-which is pretty cool. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

    (a) a cutting edge, reclusive, iconoclastic pair of electronic innovators plays a rare US show in Phoenix, Arizona.

    (b) an old, overweight, out of date midwestern heavy metal band plays to a group of old, overweight, and very out of date ex-hippies at an indian casino in Phoenix, Arizona.
(b). Although Autechre did kick off a mini tour here a couple of years ago, appropos of nothing. They're no BOC, but still.

Its a three way trade with the Celtics and Timber Wolves.

    Suns get Garnett

    Celtics get Shawn Marion

Timber Wolves get 5th overall pick and other players (unknown at this time)

I don't care about losing Marion because of his disappearing acts in at least one series in the playoffs.
Wow. That's an amazing get for the Suns, if they can make the money work. Didn't the T'wolves originally also want Stat as part of this deal? I thought I heard that somewhere.

Right and right. I'd bet Garnett wants a ring pretty bad at this point though, so we'll see.

Marion's at like $17 mil next year. So I don't think Garnett would have to cut too much.

Kurt Thomas to Charlotte for a future first round pick. Supposedly a done deal at this point.

If that's true, they better have a deal to bring in Noah or someone up front. That first rounder needs to be this year's #8.

Yes. And I'm inclined to believe him.

Dodgers 6-5 in the tenth, btwD.

EDIT: Wait. Did I get the first round pick part wrong? Are they just straight giving him to Charlotte to clear salary? i'm confused.

I'm confused too. I thought gambodoro said the suns give thomas and a first in a later year to charlotte, for nothing. what you said makes more sense, but salary cap algebra can be like quantum mechanics. intuition doesn't always work.

Rumors heating up again for the Suns

Looks like they are again a frontrunner for KG.

And it also looks like they WILL be targeting Charlotte's 8th pick this year.

As long as the don't give up STAT... which is pretty unlikely regardless of ANY report.

    I picture this next year:

    STAT - C
    KG - F
KT - F (barring he doesn't get traded in all this madness)
    Bell - G
    Nash - G

Barbosa, James Jones, and draft pick coming off bench to round out the 7-8 man rotations D'antoni likes to run.

Well if KT gets traded to Charlotte, you would have to think we would get the #8 pick. It would be KT, the 2 1sts we have right now, and Atlanta's 1st next year. If that's the case, insert whomever we would grab at the 8 spot into the lineup (Noah, Brewer, Green, Yi, Brandon Wright). As much as everyone rags on him, I would LOVE to see Noah in Phoenix. He is very comparable skill-wise to Marion (even the ugly ass jumper), but in a bigger and much less expensive package. We would lose some offense, but he would step right in, add some size, and is not concerned with being the #1 guy (like Marion is).

Yeah, I was thinking about that too. Should we be able to trade up we'd get a good deal on a big guy to step in. Loved Noah's attitude all through college and it's obvious he just wants to win. I've seen a few Yi videos and I liked what I saw in him. Far more athletic and faster than Yao would ever dream to be. Brewer has been mentioned also. I think the other ? mark would be who comes in for Nash for about 15 minutes a game?

Barbosa has proven that he can step in and keep the gas pedal pressed all the way to the floor with his speed, but he needs to improve ALOT in his vision and passing.

Yeah, I love Barbosa and all, but he should definitely not be looked at as a replacement for Nash. As for a backup PG, I wouldn't be surprised to see one of the PG's they were bringing in to work out (Gabe Pruitt, the Greek dude whose name I can't remember but I know it starts with Kopa-, etc.) available with one of their late 1st round picks, if they keep it. If they trade those picks, I wouldn't be shocked if they grab an early 2nd rounder in hopes of one of their targets dropping. I would say FA would be another option, but they will be targeting Grant Hill with their midlevel and the PG field is rather weak. Maybe they will hope Marcus Banks develops over the summer. Glad we traded Rondo so we could overpay Banks.

Marcus Banks still pisses me off. After keeping track of him for a few years at UNLV and expecting some good things out of him... he was promptly turned into trade fodder for Minnesota and Boston.

I hope and pray that we get rid of him. If he hasn't shown anything in the year that Phoenix has had him, to at least gain himself some kind of playing time... I doubt he ever will. Not here anyway. D'antoni runs a tight team based on chemistry and offense. Neither are Banks strong points.

And phoenixsky... you secretly love the crap out of the Suns.

Man... I know Garnett is VERY good... but some of the trades ideas I've seen... the Suns better make sure they come out even (at the very least with this trade)

They have too much to play with to only come out at even.

Yeah, if they're going to deal Stoudamire, they need to get more than just Garnett.

edit: actually I think I've changed my mind on this. Amare for KG straight up makes some sense. Stoudamire is an explosive offensive force and will just get better, but right now he's still a bit immature and doesn't play very good D. Put KG in there instead, you've got a veteran with much better defensive skills and maybe the same amount of offensive upside. KG's a lot older, yes, but the Suns' window of opportunity with Nash is only a few more years. I say do it.

Don't agree; Stat is immature-but that's fixable. KG is old. That's not fixable. Giving up a franchise player for instant gratification is never a good idea.
Plus, KG would be a decent defensive mentor for Stat

KG is only 31. Look at the Spurs roster -- full of guys over 30.

I think Marion for Garnett is preferable for the Suns, but I'd do Amare for KG. Think of that starting roster.. Bell, KG, Marion? the Suns would suddenly be an excellent defensive team. Nash running the show, LB off the bench? I think the team gets better. PLUS if they manage to get Charlotte's pick and can draft someone like Noah? awesome.

I don't think the Suns should be thinking who will be better in 10 years. They need to focus on the next 5, get a ring or two, and rebuild after that. They're gonna have to rebuild when Nash retires anyway.

He's been in the league, what, 5 years? and he still can't play D. or play smart. I keep hoping he'll turn into Hakeem Olajuwan but I'm starting to wonder.

Plus when I think how good KG could be with Nash feeding him the ball.. oh man.

But the thing with Amare is that he works so damn hard. He will get better. He has the work ethic and drive to do so. It took MJ a few years, but he became the best defender alive. I am not saying he is MJ, but Amare has that same drive. So I have strong faith he will get better with his D.

I don't think he is clumsy at all. You can't have the offensive game that he has and be clumsy.
Just needs to learn how to defend, without fouling. Basically, watch tape after tape of Duncan defending in the post.

We won't need him to be a lock down defender if we can bring in Noah and/or Garnett.
