I'm planning on being in Phoenix April 6th-9th, before heading to Coachella. Just throwing that out there.

Getting together for drinks might be nice. I was hoping to get in on Saturday the 5th, but I have too much to do for work. I'm planning on going to the Suns/Thunder game on the 6th, and finding some place to watching the college basketball national title game on the 7th. I was also hoping for a Hikenbrunch, but I doubt I'll get in on Sunday with time to do that. Though, I am planning on leaving from Albuquerque on Sunday morning.

I'll hollaatchasaur via email very soon.

You know what, regardless of who's playing in the game, that's actually not a bad idea. It would be more fun if it was Arizona playing in the game, though.

I take that back. It would be more fun if it was New Mexico winning it all against Arizona.

I'm sure Rick will want to get in on that title-watching game action too.

my apartment shockingly had no downed trees. but man, stormed early in ahwatukee. got those stupid severe weather alerts starting at 2:45am. thunder was loud, lightning was bright. kinda freaked out the cat. i didn't really sleep. the rain poured. much louder than normal. i guess mountain park church has like 2 million in flooding damage. i worked from home and cancel my physical therapy. rain stopped around 9 or 10 here. if you're gonna be gone awhile, i'd be happy to drive by and peek at the outside.

They must've drawn God's ire by letting gays onto the premises.

Old hat for anybody who saw me post on Facebook but there was no decent way east from the west side. Both Jen & I got on the road around 6 (5:55 am, to be precise) and she texted me at 6:39 that she was stuck at 83rd Ave, which is about 4 miles away. I stayed on for another 2 miles after that -- I tried to get off a mile earlier, at 75th, but it took me 20 minutes just to change a single lane and there was a cocksucking semi-truck asshole stopped in the lane between me and the exit, trying to get over himself but being unable to. I just darted ahead of him eventually and got to 67th comparatively quickly (that only took about 10 minutes). I knew McDowell was going to be a mess so I went up to Thomas. From my house (115th Ave/Buckeye) to 67th/Thomas, it took about 90 minutes, and from 67th/Thomas to Central/Thomas, it took nearly another 90 minutes. I heard just about the entire Howard Stern Show, I was on the road for so long. I managed to drive more than 20 mph for the brief stretch after getting off the freeway to McDowell, and then again after 19th Ave. Went from being poised to arriving to work 90 minutes early to being an hour late. If it hadn't been our big payroll week, I would've just stayed home.

Rick, that sucks. Luckily I woke up, and saw everyone's posts about road closures, I decided to wait it out until the rain stopped. I left my house at 10:30 and it only took 30 minutes to get in. Both freeways going south were closed though, and 7th street had a river running through it. There really wasn't any good way to get anywhere. I just heard there is a sinkhole on Thomas between 83rd ave & 91st ave, so the rain is still causing issues two days later.

yes, when i leave my back entrance on sundays to turn left, they are constantly turning right and making it difficult for me to leave. at least on the big days they've started directing traffic.

the problem is that the church is really low. it has two entrances that are really steep downgrades. i once saw a schoolbus stuck on the downgrade. so i imagine all the rain pooled in their church because of that.

One of my coworkers did the same as you, especially since she has a 7-year-old whose school she wasn't sure would be open. Didn't take her only 30 minutes but then she lives further west than I do. That sucks about the sinkhole on Thomas; I always feel bad for drivers who happen to be on that patch of road when it occurs. Must be terrifying and it's not due to any negligence on their part.

Your description of 7th St called this to mind:

Wonder if anybody thought to fly-fish.
