It doesn't seem there are many NHL enthusiasts on this board, but I figured I'd get this thread going anyways. To me the NHL Playoffs is the most exciting sporting event next to the World Cup of Soccer. No matter if my favorite team made it to the race for the Stanley Cup or not, I always manage to watch as many games as possible, as I always have a few other favorite teams and players I like to follow.
My favorite team is the New York Islanders. (I can feel the flames coming already) Yes, I know they don't deserve to be in the Playoffs after their comedy of errors at the end of the qualifying match against the Devils yesterday afternoon, but they managed to eek themselves by anyways. I don't expect them to get past the Buffalo Sabres, but that's what I love about the NHL Playoffs. You got 7 games to make anything possible. Sure, you can say this about many sports, but to me the NHL is the most exciting. The level pf play is increased ten fold as every player, even ones in the shadows, tend to bring their A game & rise to the challenge. This is where rivals are made and heroes are born.
I'm very excited about the Aneheim Ducks vs Minnesota Wild. I would've tried to snatch tix faster if I knew this would be the matchup. Now, that I live in SoCal the Ducks have become my local team to watch. However, I've been a big fan of the Minnesota Wild since their inception to the NHL.
This should be a fantastic series.
My second favorite team, next to the Islanders are the Detroit Red Wings. I've been a huge fan of theirs since 1989 when they esentially became team Russia. Sergei Federov & Vladamir Konstantinov are my all time favorite players. Though they're not on the team anymore, they still have many players I love to watch. They're my number one pick for the Western Conference. I'd love to see it come down to either them, the Ducks of Aneheim, or the Minnesota Wild.
As for the Eastern conference, I'd have to go with the Buffalo Sabres unless the Islanders make it out alive. After that, it's anyone but the NY Rangers. I will be rooting for any team that is up against the Rangers. The Islanders and the Rangers are possibly sports biggest rivals. Therefore, there is no team in all of sports that I feel true hatred for other than the New York Rangers. So, go THRASHERS!!!!
So, are there any other people on this board that loves the NHL as much as me??
