    Default Billy jumps the shark

Just got back from Primavera, and i have to say that the Smashing Pumpkins were truly uninspiring. The 2 new "members" had all the stage presence of a pair of coma patients. Billy stayed on stage milking the applause for a good 5 minutes at the end, on his own! (over half the crowd had by this point left to watch Fennesz + Mike Patton twiddle knobs). A Gish free setlist too - criminal.

My wife is a huge fan, and it was one of the main reasons she wanted to go to the festival, but i doubt she'd ever want to see them again after that tepid pile of dogshit.

At least Sonic Youth were there to play Daydream Nation (to a much larger audience, surprisingly), and Justice managed to keep me up late with their 2am stage time. It was a good festival overall, one big plus being an acoustic indoor all seated auditorium, where we got to see Spiritualized and Kimya Dawson.

I have noticed this becoming a trend with the past few Euro dates, no fucking Gish...seems odd.

The best material on Gish can easily hang with the best material on any of the other albums. "Bury Me" and "I Am One" and "Snail" etc are amongst their best songs.

Passive Theory is looking for torrents for Erasure. Therefore, he has no credibility.

Of course your not going to hear any Gish cuts because nobody but James can play those leads with the dynamics needed to sound perfect. I can't beleive people are actually paying to see Billy do his thing. I wouldn't walk to my front door to hear him play in my driveway!

Remember also that James actually recorded for the Gish album & was extrememly limited for the other albums. In fact I don't think he recorded anything on SD because Billy is such a perfectionist/control freak (with everything but his live vocals that is).

    Yeah.. this is true.

My bad. Maybe I'm just used to seeing all these bands jump all over the stage.

No you have a vaild point. We just watch shows from a different perspective probably. I like the music to be tight at the expense of stage theatrics. And Billy sounds a lot better than of bootlegs I've heard while the Pumpkins were in their prime. So he's got that going for him. Which is nice.

This version of Shame is really good. Adore doesn't get much love. It's a good record.

Ummm, they were never a great live act. The early days they were enchanting because they were different, but live? They've kind of always sucked. Listening to them at home or in your car is much more satisfying then watching them 10 feet in front of you. That doesn't say much about a band.

Please understand, I love the Pumpkins - and if they play Inland Invasion I will be there, but it's almost more out of nostalgia now than it is my love for live music.

Quoted for truth. 90% of their stuff before and after Siamese Dream and MCIS is completely forgettable or just plain awful.

I'll admit...Billy Corgan's ego is bigger than Radiohead. Err..well okay maybe not as big, but pretty close.
