Default CREATE A FESTIVAL - ROUND 4 - SEMIFINALS - LOST IN MUSIC VS. MUERTOS FESTIVAL

Round 4 - Semifinals - Lost in Music vs. Muertos Festival

The semi-finals are upon us, where the cream of the crop face off to get to that elusive final match up for the grand prize. This round is going to work just like round 3 did (with the set times and all) but now will last 5 days instead of 4. Remember, this vote is very important, as you are deciding who you think should be making into the final match up. So before you go clicking, take a nice deep look over the lineup, pick your favorites, look over the set times, determine your must sees and conflicts, and take some time to explore the 'little' bands (and tak e whatever else you want into account as well).

Remember, no voting if you're an alias (or suspected to be) and/or if you have less than 100 posts...they won't count, so don't even waste your time.

    WINNER MOVES ONTO THE FINALS!

I don't want to go to Mexco. Not sure how lost in music made it this far (just sayin).

    WINNER (based on lineup): Muertos.
    Whiskey Sour

    2 oz blended whiskey
    Juice of 1/2 lemon
    1/2 tsp powdered sugar
    1 cherry
    1/2 slice lemon

Shake blended whiskey, juice of lemon, and powdered sugar with ice and strain into a whiskey sour glass. Decorate with the half-slice of lemon, top with the cherry, and serve.

Lost in Music has a VERY STRONG lineup...just some bad conflicts...though one may think in the case of conflicts..you can't lose...

These are both good, but honestly I wouldn't be nearly as excited to go to them as I would be to go to some of the other eliminated festivals.

I would do ungodly things to be able to attend Lost in Music on Friday. But I'm not excited about Lost in Music's Saturday lineup like at all. Muertos is more even across the days.

I think I am going to go listen to some of the bands I'm less familiar with before voting on this one. This is a serious matter and calls for further research.

me too, but i would be bored shitless the other days...

plus with muertos, if there is a period where there are no bands that you like on, you can just explore ancient mayan ruins! the energy, the mistique...just beautiful

Meurtos has my vote, I find less conflicts there, and ALOT to do on everyday.

The Crystal Method to Underworld to Thievery Corporation is just...fun.

Lost In Music has a strong line-up indeed, but it seem's rather similar to alot of the other festivals made in this contest, with the usual Radiohead, Daft Punk, etc.. Meurtos was done with alot of creativity, and a sweet idea for a location (i'm loving the "in the tomb" party for the Chems and Underworld).

The only real downside Meurtos has (for me) is the LCD Soundsystem conflict vs. Primal Scream and Public Enemy.

I haven't been able to vote for Muertos yet because of the festivals it's been up against, and I do like the line-up. I agree with others that the Friday line-up for Lost In Music is amazing and I feel I'd discover several more artists I like by attending that festival, but as far as Saturday and Sunday go, Muertos has more acts that I've been wanting to see live for some time. Plus, ya gotta love Public Enemy and ATCQ in the same weekend. Muertos gets my vote.

I like more the Muertos lineup, I'm more familiar with it. I just don't like those 55 min sets.. Starting earlier would have made things better.

    But got my vote.

    Lost In Music:
*NOTE: I'm convinced that this festival has some powerful board influence behind it... Part of the reason why I'm convinced votes should be tallied by posting rather than the actual poll option*

    ~Friday~
    - Show up around 2:30pm
    - The National, full-set
    - Get lunch, check out some new bands, nothing certain till' 5:30
    - The Decemberists, 6-6:45pm
    - Justice, 7-7:45pm
    - LCD Soundsystem, full-set
    - Broken Social Scene, full-set
*NOTE: Halving Decemberists and Justice's sets... Not cool. Missing out on Cold War Kids? Even less cool...*

    ~Saturday~
-...Well, shit... I'd go for Daft Punk and that's it. Well... Okay that's not ALL...
    - Beck, 9-9:50pm
    - Daft Punk, full-set
*NOTE: Seriously... THREE recognizeable names for that day!? With one being TV on the Radio of all things!?!? Ugh...*

    ~Sunday~
    - Wow, nearly as bad as Saturday... Show up around 5:15...
    - The Postal Service, full-set
    - Patti Smith, 7:30-8pm
    - The Knife, full-set
    - Boards of Canada, full-set

    OOOOkay then...

    Muertos Festival:

    ~Friday~
    - Show up around 3:15pm
    - B.R.M.C., full-set
    - Cake, full-set
    - Get something to eat QUICKLY...
    - MF Doom, 6:20-6:50
    - LCD Soundsystem, full-set
    - Frankie Goes to Hollywood, full-set
    - John Williams, full-set
    - Leftfield, full-set
    *NOTE: Cake/PB&J conflict is LAAAAAAAME...*

    ~Saturday~
    - Show up a little before 5pm
    - Dresden Dolls, full-set
    - Tricky, 6:40-7:25pm
    - Muse, full-set
    - Dinner-time...
    - Of Montreal, full-set
    - Gorillaz, full-set
*NOTE: As previously stated, Gorillaz/Thievery Corp. conflict is LAME!*

    ~Sunday~
    - Show up around 2:45
    - Andrew Bird, 3:15-3:45
    - Kasabian, 4-4:30pm
    - LONG lunch...
    - Violent Femmes, full-set
    - EITS, full-set
    - Dinosaur Jr., full-set
    - David Bowie, full-set
*NOTE: Not much mid-afternoon... or mid-evening...*

    Summary:

It's pretty obvious that, for me at least, Lost in Music's Saturday is the equivalent of a halved Beck set and a Daft Punk show... Yeah... No... And with Muertos having at least FIVE bands each day I'd marginally feel like seeing, Muertos gets my vote.
    Upcoming Shows:
    * Dillon Francis + Anamanaguchi -- December 28th

Going to Weekend 1 of Coachella 2014

    Lost in Music

friday: islands, the national, sufjan, i'm from barcelona, the wrens, lcd soundsystem, broken social scene

saturday: new young pony club, guillemots, sunset rubdown, beck, daft punk

sunday: architecture in helsinki, viva voce, psapp, the mountain goats, built to spill, mew, band of horses, slint, BOC

yes, saturday is weak but friday and sunday are pretty fucking strong.

    Muertos

friday: midlake, brmc, pb&j, primal scream, lcd soundsystem, spiritualized

saturday: giant drag, beth orton, sufjan, yo la tengo, of montreal, gorillaz

sunday: andrew bird, EITS, dinosaur jr., david bowie

it kills me to vote against brmc, primal scream, and spiritualized, but lost in music simply has a more cohesive schedule. each day at muertos there's a big gap where i'm not wild about any of the choices, especially sunday.

Just a preliminary count, but here's (essentially) how to design a successful festival by Coachella Message Board Member's choices (namely the repetition of certain groups in this semi-final round)

    Repeated Twice:
    David Bowie
    Muse
    Radiohead
    Daft Punk
    Gorillaz
    LCD Soundsystem
    Basement Jaxx
    The Dresden Dolls
    Les Savy Fav
    Mogwai
    M83

    Repeated Three Times:
    Broken Social Scene
    The Knife
    Underworld
    and...
    The New Pornographers

Underworld doesn't surprise me, however, New Porn certainly does...
    Upcoming Shows:
    * Dillon Francis + Anamanaguchi -- December 28th

Going to Weekend 1 of Coachella 2014

This whole festival contest thing isn't realistic for me because I would definitely take the location into consideration when choosing between festivals. I can't really travel anywhere further than 350 miles away. That and the fact we already know who did a lot of these.

As far as conflicts go, you can actually watch nearly 30 mins of every single band at Lost In Music, if you so wish.

And Sunday blows me away WITHOUT even going to BOC (which I would be missing due to scheduling conflict with a 2 hour NP set--assuming a full NP lineup of course).

EDIT: My Sunday lineup would be sick:
12-4 AiH, Girls Against Boys (amazing that they appeared on two of the four fests--been a big fan of theirs since I still had cassette tapes), Mountain Goats at the Oceanic stage, then I'd hit up the Forest stage for the rest of the day. Not a simgle weak spot in that entire day. And yes, I'd be missing BOC for NP, despite having seen NP thrice.

I saw Girls Against Boys at Primavera last week, and they were quite amazing.
Best band i saw on that stage all weekend.
