It depends on what genres you like,

    electronica/dance etc.
    -MSTRKRFT
    -LCD soundsytem
    -Hot Chip
    -Justice
    -!!!
    -Junior Boys
    -CSS (Dancey-punk/rock)

    Indie/Pop
    -The New Pornographers
    -Blonde Redhead
    -Pete Bjorn & John
-CocoRosie (very out there, def. not for everyone)
    -Grizzly Bear
    -Lily allen
    -Anathallo

    etc.
    -Infected Mushroom (psytrance)
-Against Me! (punk band, fun show)
    -Spank Rock (really good rap)
    -Girl Talk (Crazy/Mash-up fun)

    In my opinion...

Add FIELDS and Silversun Pickups to Indie/Pop.

Fields has one CD and it is excellent. I mean, really good.
Silversun Pickups have been described as a "Gish-era Pumpkins/MBV" mix, and the influence is definitely there. I won't go beyond that...

Air are a must-see, as is Sparklehorse (for me at least). Regina Spektor... Jarvis Cocker... And if you've never heard of Jesus & Mary Chain or Sonic Youth, well, um, you may want to check both out...

i will just kick in my vote here for a few artists here i know for sure from [my own] past experience have kick-a$$ live shows... like tilly + the wall, busdriver, gotan project, !!!, king of leon (if you can get over not understanding one word coming out of the singer's mouth)...

also... i really really struggle to understand everyone's love for peaches, but admittedly she puts on a crazy ... good? weird? interesting? show too...

I'd add Crowded House, and if either they or Air aren't going up against Rage, I'd recommend checking out both.

In addition to people already mentioned in other posts, I'd also recommend Rodrigo Y Gabriela and/or The Coup on Sunday.

And yeah, like you, Arcade Fire is on my must-see list. I missed them in '05.

I'd add The Decemberists to indie pop. Great band and a fun live show.

I'd highly recommend going on Friday for JARVIS COCKER. And Interpol, Jesus and Mary Chain, Bjork, Sonic Youth, DJ Shadow... As for Saturday and Sunday, check out The Decemberists, Blonde Redhead, CSS, Peter Bjorn and John, Explosions in the Sky for starters.

Listening to new (or new to me) artists in preparation for Coachella is one of the most exciting parts of Coachella. Over the past few years I discovered a lot of bands, or finally got around to checking out bands I had been hearing about for a while, and ended up loving one or more years later. Most noteworthy adorations gained:
    2004 - Pixies, Flaming Lips
    2005 - Dresden Dolls, M83
2006 - Daft Punk, Ladytron, Giant Drag

As for this year, I still have a lot to download. I got a couple Peter Bjorn and John albums and have been really digging them so far. Downloaded a little Crowded House (including "Don't Dream Its Over", that one takes me back) and some of it was nice, some of it dull. Now about to check out Gogol Bordello. I've heard wonderful things about them.

Everyone should check out Roderigo y Gabriella (Sunday), they're a brilliant acoustic duo. They did a really good cover of Metallica's 'Orion', think it's on their myspace page

Song For The Fields is alone worth seeing Fields, though I agree that the rest of their EP is pretty great.

Ok, through the power of "search" I found a thread with a few mentions of Fields ...

So, I won't start a new thread, I'll just add my backing to seeing these guys.

I heard "Song for the Fields" tonight on XMU ... went the their website and they are streaming 4 songs ... all are good.

Kind of Stars meets Broken Social Scene

They will be opening for Bloc Party in the UK soon ...

    their website

I barely knew half the bands on the list when I bought my ticket. SInce then, I've become acquainted with:

    Placebo
    The Kooks
    Silversun Pickups
    Happy Mondays

I just finished downloading and am now listening to:

    Rufus Wainwright
    Tilly and the Wall
    Sonic Youth
    Faithless
    Blonde Redhead
    Kings of Leon
    Regina Spektor

    I'm considering adding, after that:

    Air
    Manu Chao
    Bjork
    Peeping Tom
    CSS
    Infected Mushroom
    Circa Survive
The Good, The Bad, and The Queen
    Explosions In The Sky

Who else, given the bands I've listed (and the fact I bought my ticket knowing of only Interpol, RHCP, RATM, Decemberists, Damien Rice, The Arcade Fire, and some of the above mentioned bands) who else should I get acquainted with before the show?

    2.Lcd Soundsystem

Even if they're not your cup of tea, their live performances are usually stellar..
