Neneh Cherry added, playing on Friday.
So this past week I was in the Bay Area visiting friends, I went to Rasputin, Amoeba and Streetlight Records and got the following used CD's:
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Abattoir Blues/The Lyre...
6/22/14 Portland, OR @ Mississippi Studios
6/23/14 Seattle, WA @ The Tractor Tavern
6/24/14 Vancouver, BC @ Biltmore Cabaret
6/26/14 San Francisco, CA @ The Independent
As long as I can stand and still see the band, I'm fine.
I will be visiting the Bay Area in a few weeks, on Saturday 4/12 I'm going to see Goat at Slim's.
I've never been to Slim's before - is it a good venue? Is it easier to take the BART train into...
Lineup stinks. I'm surprised that Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Modest Mouse and The Replacements aren't on it.
Wish Courtney Barnett was playing Pitchfork instead.
Did these ever get posted?
North American summer tour dates (no openers announced yet)
06-17 Quebec City, Quebec - Le Cercle
06-18 Montreal, Quebec - Theatre National
06-20 Toronto, Ontario...
You and me both, man. I saw them 4 times back in the day, they were one of my favorite bands. I still love Eight Arms to Hold You and most of American Thighs.
I was waiting for someone to bring up that reference.
"Cool concert, am I right?"
I saw Russian Circles, Helms Alee and KEN Mode last weekend. All of the bands were good, but Russian Circles in particular were amazing, they were also one of the loudest bands I've ever heard live.
New stuff from Veruca Salt:
I'm going to the KC show. I didn't like that tUnE-yArDs album (thought it was like Animal Collective meets Joni Mitchell), maybe she's better live?
I saw them in '97 with Everlast and 2 Skinnee J's. I actually still like a few songs on 14:59 (but God, I never want to hear 'Fly' again).
I just remembered - it's an even numbered year, so The Black Keys may show up again.
Hey, even grocery stores need music.
OK, I'll play.
Girl Talk - Puts on a fun show, but as piratepenguin said above, "if you've seen his show once, you've seen all his shows."
Neko Case - Her voice is sublime. I've seen...
^^Those Goo Goo Dolls dates are with Daughtry and Plain White T's. I had to check b/c I didn't think they'd be playing those big venues by themselves.
Usually headliners get 90min - 2hrs, curfew is at 10pm. Bruce's show is 3 hours, so they'd have to either cut down his time or have him start on the main stage early.
Yes. The new album is pretty good, but it could use a few more songs like this.
The top 4 would be my ideal headliners right now, but there's very little I care about on the rest of the lineup.
I've been listening to Cannibal Corpse's Torture in my car all week. It's the first full album I've heard by them (thanks library). I love the manic energy, this is the kind of music I'd play to get...
I think this would be a great song for kids to dance to.
Yeah, I like Freebirds just fine, but Chipotle is about $1 cheaper and I love how their grilled chicken tastes.
I watched season 1 of Parks and Recreation. I've heard season 2 is a lot better, I hope so. I felt sorry for Leslie Knope a lot of the time.
Oh, also I've been watching season 2 of In Living...
I really like Chipotle b/c it's quick and relatively cheap, you feel full after eating whatever you order, and most of the Mexican restaurants around here taste the same.
Great start so far. Slowdive is a surprise. I hope Death Grips don't cancel.
I really like 'Mess', because it's about a hoarder (I think) and I've written a song about a hoarder.
The only track on Mellow Gold I don't care for is 'Blackhole'.
I don't care if it's only 2 of the original members, I finally get to see Slayer in a club in May. With Suicidal Tendencies and Exodus.
Yeah, this. They've jacked up the hotel prices since the fest started selling out quickly. I have some friends in the Bay Area that I fly out to see once or twice a year, it's easier to just see one...
I have not listened to Morning Phase yet.
One Foot in the Grave
I have a few hundred rupees an Indian roommate of mine left in a desk.
In the past they've done stuff on Facebook where they ask a question about the fest/an artist and whoever they pick as the best reply gets VIP tickets.
I've never been able to get into Bjork. I listened to Post and liked a few songs, but it didn't make me want to listen to her other albums.
Having said that, I saw her at Pitchfork Fest last year...
I bought an early bird pass, this has become my go-to festival (4th year attending). It's relatively cheap, never feels too crowded, and the lineup is always excellent (even if I don't care for the...
Diesel and Dust. It's got the big hit - 'Beds Are Burning' - but the rest of the album is really good too.
Yes, I don't want to hear that song again for a long time. 'Roam' is getting there as well.
See, I don't think the 2003 self-titled is THAT bad or worthless as a lot of people have said. The last 3 songs are solid, and I'll defend 'Love/Hate' and 'Take a Look' (and, to a degree, 'HWC'). But...
There's some quality stuff on the lineup that I'd love to see - Outkast, The Replacements, Beck, Fatboy Slim, etc, but it's not enough for me to drop a grand on to go again.
I'd totally be down for it, though last time I saw them (Vertigo tour), Bono was singing some of those older songs like he had sang them 1000x before.
I've seen Neko live several times - she is a wonderful performer. Best show was in 2009 at a club in St. Louis touring for Middle Cyclone (my favorite album of hers). I don't know if she does this...
She was just OK at Pitchfork. Her stage setup was better than her performance, IMO.
I'm thinking of signing up for a pay dating site like eharmony. Has anyone here had any experience with one?
Sisters, one of Brian De Palma's early films.
Also, the original Diabolique.
I've been watching Shoah. My library has it and I've been checking out the discs. It's pretty powerful - even though it's 9+ hours long, the oral testimonies and the ghostly footage of the ruined...
Campbell Scott was so great in that movie.
I confess I am not crazy about The Kinks. They have a few songs I like, but I listened to one of their 'hits' albums and did not feel like going further into their catalog.
Same thing with...
