You can just go to the beach/Pier and listen to the show for free. Tons of people did it last year.

The venue at Oceanside Pier is great (gorgeous setting, right at the beach) and the price is right. There is a second side stage for local acts and the whole thing costs $30 only so I would imagine...

A few more details on these shows - Pixies is 9/26 and Phoenix is 9/21. You can get Phoenix tix without a service charge though Live Nation's current promotion.
