4/26 - 6th borough project @ monarch
she certainly isn't the most technically-gifted of dj's but that set was well programmed imo (and I didn't hear any really glaring trainwrecks but maybe I missed that). The mixing wasn't tight but I...
she started a bit late but was in the booth on time. not sure when she actually arrived.
good set, too

hell yes. what a weekend.
see, this gets at the inverse of the problem as I see it. I don't really care if the fest contains thousands of bad-apple fans. What bothers me is the possibility of an increasing amount of bad...
I feel like if we ever see something like that in the states, at a multi-genre fest, it will be fyf. techno of that nature wouldn't be wholly out of place amongst a bunch of loud, abrasive bands
truth be told, I'm less concerned w the edm takeover of the Sahara than I am w the "saharafication" of the festival as a whole. when some of these acts take up slots at other stages or gv sees fit to...
yeah ... about that comment ... I stand by my complaint re: the sound during nina but should have been clear about the fact that I don't know the cause. someone suggested it may have been hampered at...
day one, our driver from Palm Springs lost his way a number of times. 90 mins into the ride, 1/2 the passengers bailed at the rite aid on Monroe (due in no small part to being denied access to the...
phenomenal. both the set and the crowd
that lineup is incredible
edit: gives me hope that the rumored kangding ray show in sf is gonna happen
but the Sahara was still there (and full of the edm cheese OP is talking about). when I say "primavera-type" lineup I'm envisioning a coachella w/out the Sahara as currently curated
Ha, was right next to you. surprised we missed one another. Nina's crowd was pretty paltry starting out. it only swelled towards the end w people streaming in for duke dumont (hot since 82?)
as an aside ... I do think the demand exists such that they could comfortably sell out 1 weekend w primavera's lineup
move to 2 weekends dictated the booking strategy imo. I know some on here will say that gv could move 180,000 tickets irrespective of the lineup but I don't believe that. the Sahara acts and...
stopped by bicep for a few minutes ... crowd was enormous (at least compared to nina). they've really really toughened their sound it seems.
loved this show. and I especially loved being able to catch it from just a few rows back w minimal effort.
seems trite in retrospect, but that moment where one of the dancers addressed the crowd...
my comments about the yuma being a mini-Sahara in terms if crowd, as others have suggested, weren't exactly fair. In my defense, they were posted prior to my visiting the Sahara-adjacent beer garden...
yeah, not sure what that was all about. she was in the booth for a while during damian lazarus' set iirc. worked out nicely for me tho as I had been worried about missing the whole thing some 3/4 of...
the truth. deal w it
if only the system wasn't garbage. if it couldn't handle nina it won't handle scuba in this mood. think old mighty, but somehow worse :p
exactly. hope he scares the shit out of the stunner shades and SnapBack brigade.
hope he wrecks the place and clears it out. let's get weird :)
Warpaint / darkside
it's mostly music that serves as a way station btw Avicii fandom and the exploration of forward-thinking strains of dance music. cookie-cutter tech house masquerading as "deep" house.
and this is now basically a mini Sahara as far as crowd is concerned
only went in for nina kraviz. a stellar set absolutely ruined by abysmal sound quality. not sure if the acoustics of the space are problematic or the system wasn't tuned properly.
gave bonobo a shot last night ... best decision I made all day. great set
are you a fan of the knife on record? genuinely curious. you haven't, as of yet, disparaged the music itself.
rich get richer
warpaint was added? quick, someone alert boourns!!! :p
not a big fan of downtempo "electronica" ... never dug into his discography
not all that familiar w bonobo but if jaar is dj'ing I'd go w the former. don't really rate him as a dj.
supposedly working on it
portishead for the sat closer would be nice.
peak-time done right ...
not sure where the ceiling is here ... but I'm comforted by the fact that the floor seems relatively high
I expect the lineup will outclass the american majors
eager to see what the booth looks like if they are indeed shooting for 2 "separate" floors
ha. me neither tbh. but her recent sets have been fantastic. just loads of stuff that I'm into atm.
and you're right bout her dance mania hype front-running the bandwagon. really excited to catch...
she's playing lots of quality techno these days, w a healthy dose of acid
my top yuma act of the weekend.
recording of a live set from voiski and svengalisghost (as tropical agitation)
even better than it looks on paper. everyone...
already miles better than last year in that regard
guessing one is moderat.
fingers crossed for vatican shadow
and I'm sure re: todd terje ;)
spill it :)
classic late-Friday bad news dump
and what a bizarre statement they put out ... no explicit apology and arguably no implicit one either
todd terje (live)
