Kate's set was a very pleasant surprise. She rocked, was engaged with her audience, and even stuck around after her set to meet some of the fans in the front row.
1. Ty Segall
2. The Pixies
3. Warpaint / Lorde (tie)
I'm glad I only caught the second half of Dum Dum Girls.
Friday was consistently good for me. I saw 15 acts (mostly full sets).
My Top Three are: The Replacements, Jagwar Ma, and Kate Nash....
They were playing Prince songs between all of the sets in the (new and improved) Gobi.
The new app looks much better. Great job!
This pretty much describes my week. I'm wrapping up three weeks of systems testing, and my wife worked all weekend and the next two days, so I am juggling the kids drop off / pickup schedules...
Yes, exactly. I am going to make every effort to see this.
Yeah, the combo lock was a nice addition last year. Just the two of us this year, so down-sized to the medium.
I've never seen him, so he's near the top of my must-see list for Saturday. The Fuzz record is great, but I'm really looking forward to seeing Ty on (electric) guitar.
Bump. The general ticket sale always reminds me to order our locker!
One additional note about The Replacements: their singer / guitarist is Paul Westerberg, who you probably know as a solo artist in the 90s (i.e. "Singles" soundtrack).
Thanks! I was hoping that IAMX would finally make an appearance in the desert (aside from filming their videos there!).
Randy, thanks for the Kate Nash videos. It totally raises her up my list, and changes my outlook from her simply being the "Foundations" singer.
And seconded on the Goat video... that will be...
Very excited to (finally) see them.
"He is the baddest motherfucker in the world."
I'd be fine with this. It's been years since I've seen them, and they'd be a headliner I'd actually be sure to see.
Ok, with the deadline approaching, here is my list...
25. Chelsea Wolfe - ""Pain Is Beauty"
24. Volcano Choir - "Repave"
23. Kurt Vile - "Wakin On A Pretty Daze"
22. Daft Punk - "Random...
Phantogram got a late start, so I had to miss the end of their set. I've seen them since and hope they come back.
The 2011 set was among my favorites too.
Hi all. I know it's a couple weeks early, but is this returning for 2014? I always enjoy seeing everyone's predictions.
I've been listening to "The Unified Field" a lot lately, and like the previous album, I like it better with each spin. Also, as luck had it, I was in Austin in May, so I got to see the show there. ...
Answer: The National = 8.4 BNM
April 11-13 for Weekend 1. The second weekend dates are correct.
Agreed. That was an amazing show, even with the smallish crowd.
Wow. I was underwhelmed by what I heard earlier, but it's sounding (and looking) better with each video clip. I think I am going to catch the beginning of this, and then decide if/when to run for...
10th consecutive year for me. I'm ready... bring on the set times, conflicts be damned.
I'm ready. Just waiting on the set times (and the inevitable conflicts for Friday).
Metric / The xx
Not seen before:
Bat For Lashes
Divine Fits / Social D
I'd go with the "Singles" collection that came out mid-2000s. It's a nice chronological run through their catalog.
Top 5 for me. Although it checked the box, their 2005 set was a bit of a let-down. They definitely sound better now, even without Hooky.
I'm looking forward to an afternoon set. Still absorbing the new album, which is a departure from TYoH. I'll be curious to hear that those older tracks sound like with a full band behind them.
Long overdue. Must see (even with the conflicts).
Oh, and I recommend checking out "Viva Wisconsin," which is their live album from that time period.
Saw them at a festival in 2000, and they were excellent. During that show, someone threw something on stage (plastic bottle?), which hit the drummer. Even though I was watching him play when it...
Thanks, Albiedamned, although I'm certainly not proud of picking RHCP.
I've never been let down with the lineup, but I think they've really outdone themselves with this year's undercard. Well done, GV!
This is my 10th consecutive year. We didn't move to CA until 2003, or else I would have made the earlier festivals.
The quotes are absolutely perfect for this countdown. Thank you so much for putting this together (and to those who provided their input).
Agreed. Although the 2010 set was pretty cool with just the two of them.
Then "Do It Again" for the following weekend.
I realize that most people associate their sound with Buckingham and Nicks, but to me, Fleetwood Mac just isn't complete without Christine McVie (and there is little chance of her coming out of...
Time's up. Looking forward to seeing everyone's predictions.
Agreed. Enjoying "In Time To Voices."
Wow. That Primavera 6/1 setlist is amazing. Thanks for posting the video clip too.
They also performed on Jimmy Fallon last week. Support for 2013.
I'd do this.
Same here, exactly. Sorry Leslie, but Kasabian is a no brainer for me. I have some small conflicts / split sets, but nothing compared to last year. Overall, I am extremely happy. Thank you, GV!
I agree with this.
