It’s back for year 5. The ‘Official’ 2013 Coachella Lineup Approval rating.

How does the approval rating of the lineup change over time?

And how does it compare to the approval rating during the same time periods from prior years.

That’s what we are going to find out. This poll will expire at the end of January and after that, we’ll track the approval rating once per month until the festival itself.

Scale is 1 – 5, and I will publish the weighted average in each of the subsequent polls.

That makes me just as happy as when I saw The Stone Roses on the lineup.

This has got to be the whackest lineup thus far. Each year the lineup gets cheaper/worse. Only looking at the headliners...because when you pay this kind of money you expect there to be at least 4-6 huge names like in the past.

The headliners are:

First off -- headliners should have at least 10,000,000 youtube hits for at least one song. If you don't, you don't deserve to headline. Instead you should just be a cool undercard. Period.

Blur - hasn't been relevant for years and only has a few hits (excellent songs nonetheless). Definitely not headliner material. Years ago, Blur would have been on the right side of the 2nd row or on the 3rd and they were more relevant then.
The Stone Roses -- if you're a headliner you need to at least have 1 song with 3 million hits on youtube. If someone could please find a song with more than 3M hits, it is much appreciated.

Phoenix -- I like them quite a bit, however...don't see them as headliner material.
XX -- seriously??? WTF...yea they have a few good vibes but no way are they a headliner.

Chili Peppers -- way more relevant in 2006 when they got douched by Tiesto "being late" and Tiesto finished the night. Peppers are the only real headliner out of this group.
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds -- Maybe someone fucked up when making this poster and accidentally put them as a coheadliner.

Can't find a worse year for headliners, and its really no contest either.

The coachella luster is gone, and now its just a branded, disappointing, money grab.

I for one am sincerely excited about the lineup... and I hate for anyone to judge the entire festival on simply just the four headliners.

Fun fact: I was actually just learning about surveying this week for some consulting work I'm doing, and according to my sources, surveys on a scale of 1-5 are not nearly as useful as 1-7 or 1-9.

And by sources, I mean people that are paid over $100 per hour to be professional survey-makers. Take that for what you will.

Fun fact: If you would have got your MBA 5 years ago, maybe your unsolicited interjection would have been useful in the development of this very important poll that we use and is now tarnished with after-the-fact perspective that could only come from a business school elitist.

Courtney, what are your opinions on how others may view the x and y degrees of 3D rotation or the level of perspective shown in the results?

Here's a question that is not just mental masturbation. To what extent does the change in perception of the festival over the years reflect the actual contents of the festival itself vs. the changing dynamics of the people who frequent this message board?

Interesting how this year is more highly approved of here on the boards than the last two years, yet it hasn't sold out yet.

Using my vast mental capacity for logico-temporal thinking frameworks and meta-structures, I have concluded this can only mean one of two things...

Either the people not on the boards have shitty taste in music OR the people on the boards have shitty taste in music

Everyone on the board would fit well in High Fidelity.

In all honesty though, the past 2 years have been really pop music oriented. So it isn't surprising that this year's line up isn't as popular. But that is how things go with a mature festival.

I don't know, what about 2010? It's been huge basically since 2007 (Rage Against The Machine). Someone remarked that this has more of an FYF feel and I kind of agree...the difference being I didn't pay $350 for FYF.

It was 2006 where it blew up.

Then you can say that it took way longer to sell out and/or that scalpers aren't getting as high of prices for their tickets.

In 2011 when i decided not to go because my friends all sucked and couldn't get tickets, I sold mine on ebay and it went for 800$. Last year scalpers were selling around the 600$ mark for weekend one around now. This year you're lucky to sell for face value

Either way it seems like there is in general a smaller group interested in this year's lineup, yet those that are interested are more interested than usual

2011 was probably the worst lineup ever.
