Re: SS Coachella Stealing All The Good Acts From 2013 Layawayers??
I don't even know what to say to this. The magnitude of stupidity is backing up my colon and making my head hurt.

i think it should be pointed out how shitty it is on the east coast, especially with how much coachella likes to play up their ties with Mexico, why not have it be in California to Mexico...what the fuck is Coachella to Florida?

PULP and even Jarvis solo only did piecemeal tour dates.
But it's not like the cruise booked Stone Roses or Blur or some other super rarity for stateside indie fans.

Wait, how is Coachella poaching itself? Dont you want to refer to other festival taking these acts away? Go join the idiots who wanted single day tickets and then felt awesome with their thumbs up their ass when it sold out.

So many thumbs.
Up so many asses.
Suprefan is an expert on the matter.

While Karlyb may or may not be a human pile of failure, there actually is somewhat of a discussion to be had, hidden among the braindead reactionary drivel in the original post. I've wondered if the acts featured at Boatchella will be more or less likely to appear at the festival proper. Part of me thinks it makes them more likely, but a (larger) part of me* thinks that GV wouldn't want to feature the same "big" names at two Coachella events within the same short time frame.
* The part I'm referring to is my weiner.

I guess the question is, how big are these names to begin with? For example, Pulp is the highest billed, and just played at the last Coachella. Hot Chip and Yeasayer are the next two highest billed, and I can't see Hot Chip being higher than the tail end of the second line of their day, with Yeasayer at most being on the third, analogous to Girl Talk's billing from last year, who they are billed identical to on the S.S. Coachella poster. So even if these will be at both events, at most we are getting 2 out of the 35ish biggest names? I think that's doable, especially since everybody saw both of those coming, sort of like M83 from last year...happy they're on the lineup? Yes. Surprised? Not really.
So I think it's likely that a lot of those acts will be on both posters. A lot of the DJs I could see not being on there (Z-Trip, for example), because DJs seem to be an easier act to book on a cruise boat than a band because they can play all the poolside venues, and have more variance in their sets. An act like Sleigh Bells has played Coachella a trillion times and are kind of Goldenvoice's pet project, so I wouldn't be surprised just to see them on this cruise, but not at Coachella...sort of like, we can't possibly invite Sleigh Bells back without a new album, but they're great for this cruise. But I do wonder if the actual bands and rappers were sort of approached like, "Hey, we really want you to do Coachella 2013, and by the way, what's your feasibility to do our cruise too? We'll pay you a bunch more."
If we drop the last two DJs, the acts that played Coachella this year (including The Rapture, because we are not getting a Rapture DJ set next year in the Gobi), you have 15 names, many of them excellent, but none of them entirely unexpected or surprising. I bet we'll see the majority of them on the poster, but nobody will really mind because they'll be flipping out at the ATDI/Refused/Mangum/Godspeed's of the year.
I do think people (read: me) will be angry if Yeasayer, Simian Mobile Disco, Hot Chip (not so much me on this one, but others) were booked for this expensive as shit cruise and not for the commoners at Coachella. Those are names that aren't that surprising, but very loved, and have new albums out. I'm not going to cry if Warpaint, !!!, Sleigh Bells aren't there...they played 2011, and (to my knowledge) don't have new albums out. 2012 acts are pretty self explanatory, they aren't the Black Keys.
