Re: theklein25 reviews albums
I gotta defend theklein25 on this one. For the first time that I've seen in his history on this board, he's actually been critical of something, and something mainstream (which he normally seems to eat up) nonetheless.
Re: theklein25 reviews albums
Oh, I wasn't joking. I genuinely support. I know Cara does too.
Re: theklein25 reviews albums
Support, but only if the reviews are in that similar style of
strange poetry
Re: theklein25 reviews albums
It doesn't have to do specifically with his opinion of the new smashing pumpkin's album, that's just Nathan's example for how a review could be.
The Sigur Ros album can be listened to in full here: http://open.spotify.com/album/0zNndSTi4Kqg98hzSU6d2x

Re: theklein25 reviews albums
I vote we give the kid a break, and look in the mirror. The vast majority of the 2012 albums thread (and I'm definitely guilty of this too) are short, unimaginative descriptions of albums like "it's boring and I probably won't listen to it again" or "it's so good and full of energy!"...so when he says an album is "weak and forgettable", it's really a case of the pot calling the kettle black for us to pile up on him.
Re: theklein25 reviews albums
But the Japandroids album changed my world.
Re: theklein25 reviews albums
Don't make me the person to create the "TallGuyCM RUINS POTENTIAL FUN" thread.

I'm in. I always like to hear new music
Re: theklein25 reviews albums
I'm 100% in support of this as well.
Re: theklein25 reviews albums
Next big thread after this: Bumblee and Baily present lessons in parenting.
Re: theklein25 reviews albums
To be fair, I'd like to know theklein's history with the artist of the album he will review. Like, Valtari is a unique place to start with Sigur Ros to the say the least...

You say that now. But if history has taught us anything, this could be your "Matt at the Movies" that ends with your mom calling Goldenvoice. :rotfl

Haha, nah. I hope not anyway. Theklein seems harmless.

Oh my god, shut the fuck up you old, golem-looking motherfucker who never contributes anything worthwhile to this fucking board but can't wait to hop up and try and warn the kid who's about to be hilariously shitty that he might regret this later.

Re: theklein25 reviews albums
Valtari by Sigur Rós
Going into Valtari I had no clue what to expect. As the album began I felt like I was on a mountain overseeing an ocean. The music was very relaxing and if they were to be at Coachella then the Outdoor theater would be the spot. My one criticism is that the song Valtari had twinkle twinkle little star or a rip off of it in the background. Overall each song made me feel like I had an alternate life as a wolf, dolphin, etc. There were a lot of different sounds and this music crosses a boundary i am unfamiliar with.
My rating: 7
Re: theklein25 reviews albums
Would you listen to Sigur Ros again? Do you have an interest in listening to another of their records? What didn't you like about Valtari?
Re: theklein25 reviews albums
And, to give us a brief understanding of the way your scale works, name some albums that are "10s" and at least 1 or 2 that fall below the "4" mark.
Re: theklein25 reviews albums
Wait, why is Chris doing this? Wasn't he always a lovable curmudgeon?
Re: theklein25 reviews albums
Guys, I've had a long day. And am feeling unusually positive and optimistic after the game tonight. :D

This is how I feel when I listen to Sigur Ros too.
Re: theklein25 reviews albums
Unlikable Dicknose would be more accurate.
Re: theklein25 reviews albums

Yes I would listen to them again. I would probably start at the beginning, but since their music is brand new to me I have no desire to see them live. I don't dislike Valtari but it is something i could rarely be in the mood for.

Edit: How my scale works: The lead singer's voice is very important if I can't stand the voice then I'm going to dislike everything else. I like music that pumps me up but I also like music that I can just enjoy and follow the lyrics. Drums, guitar, and bass usually just do the job for me. How an album flows is important because it sets up the next song. Anyways I could go on forever but catchiness, energy, passion, and voice are the top things that come to mind
Nevermind
What's the Story Morning Glory
Is This It
and most recently Torches are 10's for me.
And then here are some albums I've heard that get lower than a 4
Hurley by Weezer
Congratulations by MGMT
Mumford and Sons
