Reasons Front Gate Tickets is a complete JOKE

I can't believe I'm actually wishing for TicketDisaster to eventually take over the Coachella ticket sales.

Why do I think Front Gate is a complete joke and a terrible solution to sell tickets for this very large and famous music festival? Let me count the ways...

1) Ticket purchasing isn't first-come-first-serve, but they pretend it is. I opened up three browsers to get on standby to purchase tickets. Browser #1 was opened right away, Browser #2 shortly thereafter, and Browser #3 about 10 minutes later. Guess which one got through? Yup, Browser #3. The other two browsers never made it through to purchase Week 1. Others reported similar experiences (people not getting through after an hour, but friends getting through after 10 minutes at the same time). Obviously they were either randomly picking people off the standby line, or their first-come-first-serve algorithm was messed up big-time.

2) There was a bug that allowed you to keep purchasing tickets once you got through. After I got my tickets, it plopped me right back at the purchase page (while my other browsers were still waiting on standby!) Others reported the same experience. One of my buddies told me that he actually purchased additional tickets this way.

3) Their "you are not likely to get through to buy tickets" message was bullshit. Well, at least it was for some. Most people who actually bought tickets got this disheartening message while waiting. Why even demoralize people like this (and make them give up) if it's not true?

4) There were bugs in the purchase page that sometimes kicked you right back to standby. This happened to me once, and I just managed to buy my tickets for week 1 like a minute before they sold out.

Time to dump this incompetent company full of Austin hippies and get a ticket provider that can handle the rush to buy tickets for this event.

Normally I would be annoyed by another complaint thread, but reading it in Archie Bunker's voice has made this one somewhat delightful.

Yeah I think their handling made the whole process more of an adrenaline rush than it needed to be.

Feel free to point out inaccuracies in anything I said.

I felt it deserved its own thread, especially since most of the other threads here are simply going to be lame scalping attempts.

I think it would also help if thousands of people did not have multiple browsers open. I mean, I guess you gotta do what you gotta do. I would think it would just make everything slower and more clusterfucked. I was online at 9:58 waiting on the standby page for 40 mins and got what I needed. No multiple browsers or anything.

But where does it state that it is random? how do you know for sure? I think that all the multiple browsers fuck it up some way.

It is definitely not in order of entering the standby page. There is plenty of proof in the standby page as well as discussions with friends also trying to purchase. I think we all can agree it is a mess and most people saw this frontgate mess coming.

They should make it so you long in before you get into the waiting room. This way there's no reason to have multiple browsers, logging in a second time would prompt you with something like "this account is already in the wait queue, your previous session has been closed" and then automatically kill the old browser, but keeping your spot in the new browser.

Don't get me wrong Frontgate is fucking annoying and the random waiting room sucks. Having said that it seems like most of us were able to get tickets today so there's that...

They may filter by IP address so opening multiple browsers won't do anything since they would all show the same IP address.

All ticketing companies suck for one reason or another so there is no reason to complain, you have to get your tickets somehow.

Next year when it sells out within five minutes of the presale this will be an issue, but is there anybody here that didn't get tickets to the weekend they wanted?

Ticketmaster sells tickets. Coachella uses wristbands. The days of Coachella using Ticketmaster are over.

The "waiting room" is definitely random. In a way, its a feature and not a bug because it trips up ticket brokers who have legions of bots all sync'ed to log in right at 9:59/10:00am. By random choice, it gives fans more of a shot, rather than just taking first-come, first served.

It seems like we'll only have a few more years before its random lottery like Glastonbury.

fuck this random shit, just close is to newbs. take my money for 2014 from me in full at a tent set up at camp central at coachella 2013. I'd register for next year while at the fest. I bet 25,000+ would too. then the rest can go on "advance" sale.

I almost didn't get tickets because their entire system is so flawed.

Regardless of whether or not I personally succeeded in getting tickets, that doesn't change the fact that Front Gate was a complete mess.

Saying that I don't have a right to complain if I got tickets is like saying that you don't have the right to complain about eating tainted meat, as long as you didn't get sick.
