Re: Hotels in the area already booked for 2013?!?
Yeah, most signs say something like $395 or $495 or some ridiculous high rate just so they can charge that during high demand periods.

Just booked Shadow Mountain Resort in Palm Desert for W1. 1 mile from the HWY 111 Albertson's shuttle stop. $169, throw in the the taxes and it comes out to $200 even for each night. You're not gonna be able to throw a rager at this place (music curfew, condo resort) but if you need a clean place to sleep/shower/relax/etc it's top notch.

99% of people don't ask for the difference and just accept the price hike.
They will refund the cost...or just keep your receipt and mail it to corporate and they'll refund the difference...it's the law they have to follow.
This law doesn't apply to the GV hotel packages. They can charge whatever they want.
Re: Hotels in the area already booked for 2013?!?
Right now, Hotwire.com has a 2-star hotel for $43-48 a night plus fees for both weekends of 2013. I haven't jumped on this cuz I'm not sure I'm going, but anyone is going for sure and just needs a bed might want to jump on this. I hope this helps someone.

Shadow Mountain used to have the best diving board there when I was a kid, but that's long gone... Still a good very deep pool.
