Governors Ball Music Festival
Last year's line up sucked but maybe there will be some crossovers from Orion Festival (Metallica NJ fest) according to GB's facebook picture posted today. And they changed the location this year to Randall's Island (bigger capacity than Governor's Island where it took place last year). The line up is coming out on 2/21 (http://governorsballmusicfestival.com/)
Governors Ball - 6/23 & 6/24
Orion Festival - 6/23 & 6/24
One thing cool about this festival from last year was no overlapping sets (same thing for this year too).
Last year's set times:
12:15 - 12:45: Outasight
12:50 - 1:25: Reptar
1:30 - 2:15: Passion Pit (DJ set)
2:20 - 3:05: Das Racist
3:10 - 3:55: Mac Miller
4:00 - 4:50: Miami Horror
4:55 - 5:50: People Under the Stairs
5:55 - 6:50: Neon Indian
6:55 - 7:55: Big Boi
8:00 - 9:00: Empire of the Sun
9:05 - 10:25: Girl Talk
10:30 - ???: Pretty Lights

The second day is alright. I probably would have even been excited for that lineup, 10 years ago.

bought a ticket....satisfied with the lineup and since Im on the east coast this is pretty affordable. All of my favorite fests are too far away.

Re: Governors Ball Music Festival
We are excited to announce the addition of Fiona Apple to Gov Ball 2012! The Grammy award-winning artist will be touring this year behind her first new album since 2005's critically acclaimed Extraordinary Machine. Machine was named by Rolling Stone Magazine as the 49th best album of the 2000s, and was nominated for multiple Grammys. This past Friday, Apple's select six-show club tour (her first live dates since 2007) was met with incredible demand, and sold out in minutes. Apple's addition to the Sunday lineup of Gov Ball will give new fans, as well as her die-hard following, one of the first opportunities to see her perform live in NYC since her sold out show at Central Park in 2006.
Its an honor to have one of the greatest, and most unique, female singer/songwriters in alternative music grace the stage at Gov Ball this year. :lool We can't wait.

Re: Governors Ball Music Festival
I got my 3 day pass today. I think the line-up will be good. If not, I could always get rid of it.
-
Re: Governors Ball Music Festival
i would imagine this means animal collective are playing. cool.

Re: Governors Ball Music Festival
Lineup out tomorrow according to their Facebook. If they can put out a 3 day lineup so easily, why can't our boys at GV do the same?

No overlapping sets = less acts to book
I would expect anywhere from 30-36 acts to be announced tomorrow:winkiss

I don't think I'll be around! Probably going up to Toronto that weekend for Broken Social Scene:) But if I end up going, sure thing!
ps Line up is pretty solid. If Deerhunter, Dino Jr, DFA 1979 and Grizzly Bear are playing the same day, I might be tempted to go:)

Re: Governors Ball Music Festival
it's basically like Coachella 2011. Would be happy if they got arcade fire to fill that TBA slot.
-
Re: Governors Ball Music Festival
I knew they wouldnt disappoint this year. Maybe aside from the headliners, but there is so much talent here who gives a shit about the headliners!!!
-
Re: Governors Ball Music Festival
hot damn! i went to one day last year (for modest mouse and explosions in the sky), and it had a really great set up. close stages, great food, easy to get to (take the subway and bus, not the ferry!). i was thinking that if they had a better lineup, it could be a really amazing festival. and here we have an extremely awesome lineup. can't wait!
-
Re: Governors Ball Music Festival
Trolls on this message board saying it's a lame lineup make me laugh. All this for 180 is a fucking bargain. Spooks, I was mostly joking when I wrote that. If I end upin NY for this, and you are around we should definetely grab a drink or 5.

Given they already announced 66 acts I don't see any way they can do non-overlapping sets this year.

Re: Governors Ball Music Festival
Any festival I can drunkenly get home from is alright by me.
-
Re: Governors Ball Music Festival
This gives me so much hope for dfa1979 show announce in my area.
-
Re: Governors Ball Music Festival
last year there were only 2 stages, and this year there will be 4. no chance of non-overlapping sets. and i have no idea where the heck they are going to fit 2 more stages.

Re: Governors Ball Music Festival
electric zoo is also on randall's island and they have four stages... one main stage and 3 tents setup like this.

Re: Governors Ball Music Festival
electric zoo using tents is what makes the difference. where electriz zoo put 3 tents, governor's ball had one normal stage. i'm interested to see how they figured it out. with all the dance acts, i'd imagine there will be a tent somewhere.
