Feel like I should be into James, but ain't for some reason. If you went through the CD case piles I threw out yesterday, then you know I'm all up in the brit poppiness thang. Dunno, just don't work for me.

Thank you for pointing out their amazing last couple of albums. They are the most underrated band at Coachella this year. I once heard of them referred to as "the best band that noone has ever heard of." Truer words never spoken. I saw them open for the Cure in England in '91, supporting Laid in 90 something and supporting their last two albums more recently and I can honestly say that they put on one of the best live shows I have ever seen.
Amazing band! Great live performers. They are filling a much needed gap in the Coachella line-up this year. Emotional. Inspiring. Sing-a-long-able. Exciting.
Hope they get the crowd they deserve.

the best thing about james is that they can play a festival or a club ... I've seen them in both.
For Coachella I'm hoping for set list inclusive of Sit Down, Born of Frustration, Sometimes and I can't ignore the radio hit Laid.
But there's a more intimate quality to the band which may or may not come through at Coachella. I'd point to songs like Protect Me, Waltzing along, Don't Wait That Long and even songs from the most recent record like Kaleidoscope and Got The Shakes.
Hopefully we'll get a nicely mixed set but festival sets seem to be heavier on the former described material.

Played Vancouver a couple hours ago. 300-400 people in 1,000 capacity club.
IMO, the shorter set will work to their advantage as there is a higher ratio of "hits" to keep more casual fans interested.
Even a single notable conflict on that busy saturday could mean an intimate crowd where there's more Brits/Aussies than Americans. Just like Suede and Elbow were last year.
I'll be at their show for sure tonight. Kind of weird that another British band (Radio...something) will be playing down the street in the basketball arena at the same time, while James will likely be playing to a half-full small venue that a band like We Were Promised Jetpacks easily sells out.

Their show was really awesome last night. They played about half hits and half deep cuts/newer tunes. They left "Sit Down" out of the setlist though, and I'd be lying if I said that didn't piss me the fuck off. If they don't play it at Coachella I might just lose my shit.
I don't mind seeing James, but don't want to see Bosh or Wade with him.
They didn't play "Say Something." Hmm...

I figured they wouldn't play "Laid" based on their setlists, but I'm worried about them cutting other hits for the shorter set.
I guarantee they play Laid at Coachella. They're gonna pack in all of their hits into a 50 minute festival set. Apparently they're just making a point to play songs they left out of their last tour on their normal gigs this time around.

Why would they not play Laid at Coachella?
Since I'm going weekend 2, I will know to miss them if they don't play it weekend 1
There is less than 50% (like 30%) of them playing "Laid," on the basis of their 2011 setlists.
Laid is their most successful song in the states. You're out of you mind if you think they'll skip it at a festival like Coachella. And if they do skip it, then they are clearly out of their minds.
By that logic, I'm looking forward to hearing "Creep" on Saturday.
Pretty douche-y maneuver on their part, if true. It's one thing for Radiohead not to play Creep since they've had sustained success for 15+ years. It's another for a band still playing clubs after all these years not to play by far their most well-known song. I remember a Lou Reed show a bunch of years ago and right before "Walk on the Wild Side" he said, "This song kept food on my table through some lean years, so of course I'm gonna play it."Quote:
