~~ Official 2012 Lineup Approval Rating ~~
It’s back. The ‘Official’ 2012 Coachella Lineup Approval rating.
How does the approval rating of the lineup change over time?
And how does it compare to the approval rating during the same time periods from prior years.
That’s what we are going to find out. This poll will expire at the end of January and after that, we’ll track the approval rating once per month until the festival itself.
Scale is 1 – 5, and I will publish the weighted average in each of the subsequent polls.
Thru 1/17 and 175 votes

Love it. All other factors aside, GY!BE, ATDI, and Dre/Snoop alone make it worth it. That being said, there are crap tons of other awesome acts on top of those.
Re: ~~ Official 2012 Lineup Approval Rating ~~
Wes, kudos for doing this. I find it really interesting to see how the ratings compare. I think it probably tells us more about what kids of people visit the message board in each month, than it actually tells us about the lineup.
Re: ~~ Official 2012 Lineup Approval Rating ~~
A little shocking at first but I love it.

There's a lot to hate, but anything with Pulp necessitates approval, plus Radiohead, Jeff Mangum, Mazzy Star, St. Vincent, Cat Power, Godspeed, Feist, Explosions in the Sky, Beirut, etc.

Yeah, I feel similar to this. I mean at first I kept questioning what I was looking at, but like most things in life,
its what you make of it; that being said, I can't wait to have a great time!
Re: ~~ Official 2012 Lineup Approval Rating ~~
at first i thought the lineup was fake and some gv intern fucked up. why Radiohead, Mangum, Godspeed, and Flylo are all playing the same day, ostensibly starting around sunset, is beyond fucking me.
Re: ~~ Official 2012 Lineup Approval Rating ~~
The great outweighs the bad.

I approve, OK. Saturday is a 5 star day, loaded to the brim with two full days worth of good bands. Friday and Sunday are both like 3 star days with fairly weak headliners, and weak lower tier bands.
Re: ~~ Official 2012 Lineup Approval Rating ~~
I'm not clear. Is this for Week 1 or Week 2?
Re: ~~ Official 2012 Lineup Approval Rating ~~
the lineup for Weekend 2 will probably fall Monday night.

Yep. I would call Friday 4 star. But yep.
Re: ~~ Official 2012 Lineup Approval Rating ~~
I'm not terribly impressed with the lower tier. I haven't made any good new discoveries yet and I'm almost to the end of Saturday.
Re: ~~ Official 2012 Lineup Approval Rating ~~
insert 'lower tier' ass-related snark here.

Like Pixiesp, I've made it through Saturday and have yet to find something that got my lower tier in gear...is that ass related enough, Tom?

My vote is below "average", which on this scale is disapprove it seems. The reason I say below average is because, at least in my experience (5th year vet), Coachella usually provides a much better lower tier than this, and the headliners, with the exception of Radiohead are kind of weak (e.g. Black Keys? Do they even have two songs that sound different from one another?). And most of these lower tier bands don't even have a single album I would play from beginning to end on a regular basis, when I have company over, or even driving alone in my car. Sure I own a lot of these albums from a lot of these bands, but would I say that I love any of them?... with the exception of Bon Iver's, Bon Iver, and DJ Shadow's Endtroducing (which he wont even play from).. NOPE! I guess you cant have amazing artists like LCD Soundsystem, MGMT, Beach House, Fever Ray, Pixies, Daft Punk, Arcade Fire (before they were huge), TvOTR, Animal Collective, on the undercard every year. Maybe music just sucks right now. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE RUMORED LINEUP. THAT UNDERCARD WAS WAAAAAY BETTER!

THANK YOU
i guess i'd say average - Radiohead sort of makes up for The Black Keys and Dr Dre Snoop (not a fan of rap or the former). M83 is pretty huge consider his release last year was pretty mega. For the lower tier i think you have to find the hidden gems. I have a feeling Keep Shelly In Athens will have a stand out set. Wolf Gang, We Were Promised Jetpacks and WU LYF are very solid for "lower tier bands". haven't listend much to Sunday's lower tier groups yet...
Re: ~~ Official 2012 Lineup Approval Rating ~~
The more I look at this lineup, the more I yearn for the leaked lineup.
