Perfect day for my phone to suck a big fat dick
Oh well hoorah!!! This no instant presale or room info is a killer

Re: ATP / IBYM 2012 - Asbury Park, NJ
So Greg will probably book The Gutter Twins and/or the Twilight Singers. Mark Lanegan should be there.

Re: ATP / IBYM 2012 - Asbury Park, NJ
If I'm guessing now I'd say my ATP US streak will end at four. Asbury was disappointing for me compared to Kutshers and I'm ambivalent about Afghan Whigs. Then again, I thought I'd skip the Lips year since I'm not a fan and the bill would up being great, so time will tell ...

There are two days curated by ATP, those tend to be my favorites anyways, so I'm not worried at all. I think the fervor over the Afghan Whigs is going to be much less than, say, Portishead so ATP will need a strong lineup for good sales

Re: ATP / IBYM 2012 - Asbury Park, NJ
The Afghan Whigs are a soul-influenced American rock band from Cincinnati, Ohio. The band were one of the most critically acclaimed rock groups of the 90's and were known for their epic live performances.
It says so right on Wikipedia.. that's enough to get me excited :)

Agreed. But coming off Asbury 2011, I've been thinking that to get me back there again, I'd need a curator that really appealed to me at the top of the bill. That didn't happen. But yeah, the rest of the bill could be super amazing to the point where it won't matter.

Re: ATP / IBYM 2012 - Asbury Park, NJ
As a left field choice, I could see Denis Leary at this. He and Dulli go waaaaay back.

Re: ATP / IBYM 2012 - Asbury Park, NJ
I guess we'll just have to wait until January to see. There will be Friday and Sunday headliners that could easily go over the AWs for me, especially if IBYMUK2012 is any indicator of a general 'mood' in ATP's curating

Afghan Whigs are someone you would know IF you knew what you were missing.
Listen to Black Love forthwith.

Re: ATP / IBYM 2012 - Asbury Park, NJ
Also, i am crazy excited about Afghan Whigs reunion, AND I would love to go back to NJ next year...not sure if it's in the cards though. Even more incentive to to ATP London now, HMMMM
EDIT: Although they seem fairly likely for Primavera now, which would be fucking insane and definitely fill the GBV void.

Re: ATP / IBYM 2012 - Asbury Park, NJ
Yankees have a late September homestand the week before and the weekend of . . . man I need to find a way to make this happen.

Re: ATP / IBYM 2012 - Asbury Park, NJ
I'm in, even though the Afghan Whigs were one of the worst bands I've ever seen. I'm guessing it was 89? Or so in Pittsburgh and everyone stood outside in the cold waiting for them to finish so we could see the headliner, Bullet LaVolta, maybe? Who knew? Anyway, psyched for the Festival again. whigs got better, obviously.

Re: ATP / IBYM 2012 - Asbury Park, NJ
Wow what?! Awesome! I really hope Gutter Twins show up, they need Lanegan to curate one of these once
-
Re: ATP / IBYM 2012 - Asbury Park, NJ
I don't think I've heard Afghan Whigs before. Will check them out tonight.
EDIT* Soul influenced, eh? Like.

Re: ATP / IBYM 2012 - Asbury Park, NJ
Gonna really try to make it to this. After reading about all the fun, I can't pass it up. Especially not with Afghan Whigs playing.
And shiit, right around my birthday. I'll be there.

Re: ATP / IBYM 2012 - Asbury Park, NJ
I'm in if I can figure out logistics and get the time off work. Last year was too much fun.

See you dudes on the shore next year

Was a lot of fun and would like to return someday, but it depends on the lineup and what other events of interest are happening next year.

finances and whatnot. Radiohead is taking much of my time and travel, so I might have to skimp, despite it being in sept...
