Question to all veterans of Coachella...
I'm going to Coachella with my brother who is 16 & I'm 20. We were going to car park/camp but since I'm not his "legal guardian" I don't think I can. So even though I'm of age to rent the camp site, do any of you all know If I can bring him along? Anyone else have this experience, If so what happened? Thanks
Re: Question to all veterans of Coachella...
the faq and rules say only 18+
Re: Question to all veterans of Coachella...
Tell him to start growing out his facial hair asap; if he looks like a baby he'll probably get carded, but in all the years of going, I've never seen anyone carded at the camp entrance (since 05)
Have some paperwork that has official "legal guardian" status on it or just wing it.

You should be fine man. Not sure if they "id" all campers, We have had the pleasure of having friends in Palm Springs since the start, so never camped, But you should find out before you guys come all the way out from Austin. Coachella is all ages, but as far as the camping goes, 18 and up, but show your relationship to them as his legal guardian/Brother.. good luck
Re: Question to all veterans of Coachella...
I think you'll be good man. I have never seen anybody get their ID checked in the campgrounds.
Re: Question to all veterans of Coachella...

if anyone checks their id at the entrance, they are probably going to miss out on having a good time.
Re: Question to all veterans of Coachella...
who knows how much more stringent they may be after all the media coverage of that young girl that od'd last summer.
and as a veteran i say don't bring your brother and risk messing with the future of our festival should something bad happen to him.
camp offsite.

agreed
Re: Question to all veterans of Coachella...
They ID'd in the campgrounds every year but last year when they dropped the 18+ thing.
If they are back to 18+ you WILL get carded.
Especially after last year.

If you've never camped and you don't know, then why are you fucking answering?

Re: Question to all veterans of Coachella...
i took my 17 year old sister two years ago in 09, and she brought a fake with her, but they ended up not id'ing her, but we did see them id'ing other people so i guess its hit or miss, also there was no car camping that year so it wasn't like they were checking everybody in the car like last year.

how far is LAX from coachella?
Re: Question to all veterans of Coachella...
A temporary legal guardianship may work. Basically it is a legal agreement with your parents that you will become the legal guardian for a specified period of time.

Now the FAQ implies that you need a court order but this is a legal document, that will hold up in court. That should enough to get you past the people checking at the door.
Re: Question to all veterans of Coachella...
I doubt they will hassle you at all. They have never ID'd me going into camping and given that you will probably have the same last names, you can claim that you are his legal guardian if they ask about it. Most parents do not carry forms on them during vacations inside the U.S. to claim their kids or guardianship. I liked Blinken's idea about getting a form that doesn't have to go through the courts just in case. But I have also seen kids under 18 get in without any supervision whatsoever. I would put your mind at peace and not worry about it at all. You will be cool.
ALSO if this does not work...because Coachella itself is an all ages event with every festival goer allowed in Camping, your brother can just go to the campsite if he has his wristband...getting it to him Thursday could be an issue though if they hassle yas though.

How do I become the guardian for a child in juvenile court?
Think about the responsibilities you will have. If you decide to be a guardian, talk to the social worker or probation officer in charge.
Or write a letter to the juvenile court judge. The letter should say:
Your name and address,
Your relationship with the child,
How long you have known the child, and
Why you want to be the child's guardian.
If the judge chooses you as guardian, you'll get a copy of the court order after the hearing.
