sometimes the truth is hard to swallow, BUT doesn't 18+ eliminate most of the candy ravers?
yes most, but sadly not all
There are plenty of candee ravers age 20+.
You have NO IDEA how uncrowded Nocturnal was. At times Alice's House (the main tent w Steve Angello, Dada Life, and other house acts) seemed packed, but there was SOO much room to dance. At the end of the night, while everyone else was watching Halliwell and Pretty Lights, a very very very very VERY small crowd had Green Velvet all to themselves. I was SUPER stoked about the intimacy. (Except the part where I couldn't find any youtube videos to help relive the moment because there was hardly anyone there).
And the crowd wasn't AS stupid as usual with the Insomniac NOS events.
SO YES, 18+ REQUIREMENT DEFINITELY SAVES THE DAY!
...oh and I was stoked about having room to sprint from stage to stage, in attempt to optimize my time.
Remember when those kids drove off the side of the mountain on their way home from juju beats? I think it was in 00 ... Everyone said that would be the end of raves in Cali. They even forced Nocturnal to be held out at Havasu. And now ten years later kids are still doing stupid shit at even larger massives and raves are still not banned ... I think thats a good sign raves will be around for a long time
A promoter died falling asleep at the wheel on their way back from Havasu's Nocturnal that year too, IIRC.
I remember that being a very brutal 4 hour drive home.
where was it held in havasu? They also held a nocturnal at the polo fields around that time too right?
I always get a chuckle out of the anti candy ravers.
Jesus people, you're going to huge ass trance event with music tailored for leprechauns. Don't go to McDonalds and complain that they sell fries.
I think the Coachella Nocturnal Wonderland was labor day weekend 1999, but I'm a little foggy on that. That would have made it about 6 weeks before the first Coachella and that doesn't seem right. Could have been 98.
The downside was on display at monster massive. Practically no production. The only reason the lineup had such big names is because they were booked before 18+ was in place. Next year nocturnal will have even less good names on the bill. How will they get people there with a worse lineup than this year?
Not to mention even less 18+ people will be interested next year, imo.
I think Nocturnal at the polo fields was in 01 which was amazing. Nocturnal in havasu was not... and ya that drive was really really bad
And they just had it on an airstrip? how many stages?
the Coachella Nocturnal Wonderland wasn't 2001, because I know it took place before the first Coachella Festival. I remember that because it was the first and only event there that went all night long.
I don't remember how many stages the Havasu one was but it was probably 5, all lined up on the airstrip. I was working a vendor booth so I didn't get to see much. I remember it was the first time I heard Green Velvet "La La Land".
Little know fact I worked the box office at Nocturnal Havasu. As well as EDC at Hansen Damn and about the next 4 events after that.
Someone oded on ghb at that havasu one.
Ya im pretty sure it was five stages. Nocturnal was at the polo fields cause goldenvoice could not afford coachella that year and Paul asked Pasqual to throw an event there so the owners of the fields could still make money that year without coachella ... I remember walking out of the polo fields at the end of Nocturnal at like six or seven in the morning and the entire crowd broke out in applause it was the perfect ending to a perfect night
i need to make it out to one of the 18+ parties out there. im pretty sure the stupid promo company in colorado isnt doing EDC this year cuz of that reason. hahahaha retards. i went to nocturnal in 09 and that was pretty sweet id have to say, compared to anything out here at least
I have lots of pic from there. To bad they are all film.
Notice the lack of 14 year olds in their underwear?
man what a shit storm that party was. I remember the wind kept blowing the needles off the records. Also remember the hip hop stage losing power for almost an hour. Oh and the checkpoint right outside the party with cops checking every car pretty much
Yeah and DJ swamp ended up not playing....
,;ahhhhhhh DAMn IT
