I think The Monitor does as much for me now as London Calling did 30 years ago. I am not kidding.

The thread title is deliberately intended to draw comparisons to the AF, not necessarily as criticism (I like the AF), but just because I think it's interesting. The Suburbs attempts (it seems to me) to be an epic, overarching, profound statement about American life. The Monitor doesn't (appear) to attempt that but succeeds so much more fully in my eyes. ears. whatever. I don't know if TA were trying to make an epic, overarching, profound statement, but they did.

Im going to give the monitor a listen and tell you what i think.

That album floored me so hard when it leaked that I listened to it again immediately after finishing it. It's easily my favorite album of the year. I think I commented after their first album that they are the closest thing my generation is going to have to our version of the Replacements, and this album cemented that fact.

Well i have to admit i saw Titus Andronicus without knowing one song.I am almost done listening to No Future Part Three: Escape From No Future and I remember seeing this song live at Fuck Yeah Festival and loving it.I left after X amount of songs to see Off!(and by the time i got to the stage they were done).

I've only heard The Monitor but I love it. One of my favorite releases of 2010. I need to get their other material soon.

It's an utterly fantastic album. Irreverence at its Clash-esque finest.

I'm glad this thread happened. The Monitor has been my favorite 2010 album since the day I heard it. They are on my short list of bands that HAVE to be at 2011. I highly recommend their self-titled debut as well.

EDIT: I just remembered that its been my avatar for months derr.

I agree with these. I also hear a lot of Pogues in there, and it's not just that they break into an Irish jig now and again, or that they have bagpipes on that one song. Patrick Stickles sings a lot like Shane MacGowan I think.

I haven't listened to their first album, but I love the Monitor. They'd be perfect for a set at Coach '11 in the Mojave during the early afternoon.

Their first album was fantastic. I wasn't much impressed with the Monitor but I haven't given it much of a chance. I'll listen to it again today.

I have to thank drinkey for going to see Titus at fyf or else i wouldn't of seen titus and i like to thank tomAz for this thread.

I really need to give The Monitor more time. It's an awesome album but it's so lyrically dense that I haven't been able to give it more than a few listens. Such a cool band though.

I bet if they wore robot suits this thread would be more popular.

The Monitor has been rocking my eardrums for quite sometime. Excellent stuff. Love the tie in between A more perfect union and Titus Andronicus Forever. Further more I put them on my list of 25 on my first revision.
