Just picked up the LP this afternoon and I have to say, being a big fan of Deerhunter from the start, this album blew me away. It may be too early in the year for me to crown this album of the year, but whatever comes out will be hard pressed to beat this one.
From start to finish I love this album. My favorite tracks on here are Revival, Helicopter, Basement Scene and Desire Lines.
What do you all think?

I'm four listens in, I'm gonna pick up the record tomorrow, and I think this is probably my number two album of the year. I need a better quality recording and good speakers to hear it on, but I have noticed that Josh is much less of a presence on this album, and that Lockett is carrying more of the weight, which I think is great. I've loved this band since they put out Cryptograms, and I can't believe how far they've come in such a short time. It's great to have talked with the guys since they started to get noticed and see how much they've developed since then. Ask me four years ago and I never would have expected that Deerhunter would have made a record like this.

Actually, swap out Basement Scene for Sailing now that I think about it. If it weren't for Desire Lines and Helicopter, Sailing would be the highlight of the record.Quote:

The intro of "Desire Lines" really reminds me of AF's "Rebellion"
Microcastle didn't grab me the same way Crytograms did. There was something to Cryptograms, some weird quality that made me want to listen to it more. This album's got a completely different magnetism, but again, I can't stop listening to it. Desire Lines might climb in as my favorite song of the year if it's not careful.
I've yet to give this a listen. Unbelievable!! Considering I am a fan. A big fan.

I think their lackluster performance at Coachella has influenced my opinion of them also, as I remember being fonder of them a few years ago. I know it was mostly technical issues that stalled them, but the dudes came off a little too hip / apathetic to me when they were actually playing.
Lackluster? Bradford improv'd that badass Coachella Song on the spot while they were having technical issues. That was a golden moment for everyone there.
I think their sound always has a kind of apathetic tone anyway and it works for their live performance. Can't wait to hear the new tunes at the Fonda.
Agreed. The rest of their set was only ok though, I think a better time slot/stage would have suited them better. 2pm at the outdoor is almost never fun, and their crowd was tiny.Quote:

i had listened to only a tiny bit of Deerhunter at that point and I thought they were completely captivating at Coachella - a very good set.
