If I can get a ticket. won't be available to purchase tomorrow so if the Orpheum sells out Tom Waits-style, probably not.

I'm just picking random stuff on youtube today. I did notice different (better) styles of singing on different songs. Sorry, I fail at music research. I'll keep listening and see if I can get acclimated -- it took me a while to get past Jonsi's vocal quirks, so I may be able to do it.
How well do you think the Tucson show will sell? Do I have time to wait until Calexico gets their shit together and announces their thing?
i doubt i'd be able to afford a ticket for this, but please keep me in the loop regarding any meet-ups :) i'm on the way to tucson ;)
I think the lyrics on the back half of the album are better than the first half, but the song structures aren't as wild and out there. Also, at least on Peach Plum Pear and Swansea, I really dislike the production or lack thereof. Peach Plum Pear's overly tracked vocals drive me nuts, since the lyrics on there are so damn good and it's hard to pick them out.
The good Joanna seats will probably get snatched up pretty quick, but yeah, it'll take a while to sell out if it does.
Tickets for Phoenix went on sale early.
Funny story about "Peach Plum Pear." I used to think one line of the lyrics went:
"Made me bold, like a whore."
Which really wouldn't be that much of a stretch in the story of the song. But they turned out to be:
"Made me bolt/like a horse."
Which struck me as typical Joanna nature/animal kingdom bullshit
5th row section A. Should I take it?
IS the Rialto known for going on sale late or weirdly? I can't find a ticket link.
The Phx one was early. I bought one. What the heck.
I got 1st row for the Tucson show. Holla.
Row A - Seat 9 to be specific.
Nice grab, Matt.
John and I are Row B - Seats 10 and 11 for the Rialto.
Now I can go back to sleep. Wild night in SF.
I am glad I got to the Orpheum Ticketmaster page early; that link was live at least 10 minutes before 10. I pulled 3 tickets in Sec A (middle) row 3 on the aisle on the harp side. I am damn pleased with how that worked out.
I just purchased a Rialto show ticket and grabbed 1st balcony row A seat 17. Looks close to perfectly centered. Win!
Now when does the Calexico party go on sale?
I got Ys the other day (thank you, Bryan) and listened to it on the plane to San Francisco yesterday. God damn, why couldn't this be happening on another weekend? "Emily" in particular has lodged itself in my brain. Think I've gotta take the plunge on her latest disc. You folks are lucky you get to see her live (again, for a few of you).
So, I finally came around to Ys. I enjoyed Have One On Me the first time I heard it...but for some reason I couldn't get into her second album. Probably because her voice is so different on HOOM.
Also, there's much more traditional structure on Have One On Me, and the songs are just generally more accessible. Ys lives in its own world and there's not a ton of precedent for it, so it can be hard to approach.
True. Also, it often takes me multiple listens to get into an album/artist. I remember not feeling Veckatimest the first time I heard it. Now it's one of my favorite albums.
Has anyone heard Ariella Daly? She's opening for Joanna in Tucson. Also, what time are you out of towners rolling in? I propose you come a bit early so we can have a few adult beverages.
I'm leaving LA around noon at latest probably. I've not thought about it yet really.
I expect to be in Tucson by 5:30pm. It looks like i'm coming solo at this point too.
Cool. My lair will be open to all who wish to indulge before the show(across the street for those who haven't been.)
My sister in Marana (just North of Tucson) just had a baby so I am going to try to finagle a ride down early to visit and then meet up with folks and catch a ride back.
Or maybe I'll drive myself, too and we can all have separate cars!
