Re: Lake Cahuilla Camping. On-site car camping alterniative
So this is a question for all who have camped at Lake Cahuilla before. Last year I was a part of the clusterfuck of cars that arrived on Friday; once we got into Indio it took us 4-5 hours to actually get to the festival. I'll be driving between the lake and the festival, should I be leaving a good couple hours before to beat the traffic or will traffic not be as bad in the morning?

Traffic usually isn't that bad coming from Lake Cahuilla. We approach from the opposite direction as most of the traffic.

Re: Lake Cahuilla Camping. On-site car camping alterniative
just as a personal plea:
be nice to fellow coachella goers and cancel your spot if you don't intend on using it. i remember in 2007 i got tix but couldn't get a spot. it worked out for me, but i remember showing up and the place being kinda empty, lots of people just didn't show.

Re: Lake Cahuilla Camping. On-site car camping alterniative
Yo everyone i have a camping spot and i have alot of extra room if people need a place to stay. im camping with my girlfriend and my best friend has his own camping spot and our friends from colorado that we met last year have a camping spot as well. this is my 3rd year going to coachella!!! i am uber 420 friendly and am willing to accept compensation preferably cash or "mind altering" things. i am heavy into all the dubstep artists there this year, but i listen to everything so dont trip. expect a serious nonstop 3 day rager at our campsite. if you meet the criteria or are interested then hit me up. my cell phone number is 562 215 9393 and my email is biodome722@yahoo.com first come first served. but i do have alot of space so get at me!!

So I have a camping reservation at cahuilla. Is it possible to have more than six people per site, or is there some sort of fee? if so, does anyone know how much?

They have not strictly enforced the number of people per site rule in the past. But they do enforce the number of cars rule.

Re: Lake Cahuilla Camping. On-site car camping alterniative
Dumb Question: Driving in from Cahuilla means you have to park for the $20/day fee at the spots around like everyone else yeah?

Re: Lake Cahuilla Camping. On-site car camping alterniative

I've gone every year since 2004 and parking has always been free. Maybe someone was standing at the entrance making some extra cash. Not a bad idea! Sounds like it worked.
From the Coachella FAQ page...

What's the deal with parking?
There will be plenty of parking adjacent to the festival grounds. Day parking is free.

I never paid for parking either.
Last summer, in San Francisco, these Canadian tourist paid $100 for week long parking only to find their car towed when they came back 6 days later. Some random dude just stood out side and collected cash for parking.
Don't pay for Coachella parking

No one had wristbands when they arrived last year. You traded your ticket for a wristband at the festival gate after parking. Parking has always been free, weather or not you have a ticket. You got ripped off if you paid for parking at Coachella. Parking will also be free this year. The only difference is that this year you are not allowed into the parking lots without a festival wristband. No one has to pay for Coachella parking, ever.

Re: Lake Cahuilla Camping. On-site car camping alterniative
Hey guys,
I have a campsite on Lake Cahuilla, and a friend and I need a ride down to Coachella.
I would love to get a ride down and share my campsite with some easygoing folks. I am a very accepting person; I'm cool with whatever you're into. We can hang out or not hang out, all that I need from you if you'd like to stay at my campground would be a ride from the Bay Area for myself (and hopefully one other), and a ride from the camp to Polo fields in the morning.
I don't care so much about male or female, age, I'm just interested in attending with some low-maintenance, friendly folks.
Shoot me a line! Let's work something out!
(driver will receive mad smokout-age and driving ca$h)

Well fuck. Thanks for the heads up. We parked at the dirt lot accross Monroe and were able to sleep in our car there. So it wasnt all bad. But now I know to look for the free spots.
Anyone who uhas camped at Cahulla before: What lot is clsoetest/easiest? I hear about 2-5 hour long waits to get back at night, is there a better way to do this? THANKS!

well technically for 2011 the "companion camping overnight parking" spots were sold (limited amount of spots) sold out.
but yes, day time parking for festival attendees is free. I have seen some locals selling space in front of their houses before. Remember, coachella is surrounded by people who live there year round.

Well you have 3 choices leave a bit early, leave later, or sit in traffic.
Now, after you decide the 3 options what I suggest you do is get a map of the streets from like Google Maps. And map a route away from the traffic.
If you went last year you'll remember which way they flow traffic, and plan accordingly.
10min of planning can save 10hrs while at Coachella.

Re: Lake Cahuilla Camping. On-site car camping alterniative
