This will be our last show for a few months while we take some time to write new songs, do some reekordin, and have another monde-baby. We have a special set and some surprises planned for this one, so come on out and bring all your friends. We play at 11:30 pm followed by Dry River Yacht Club. DRYC are a truly original local band that are playing at the South By Southwest music festival this year in Austin, Texas. They describe their sound as “gipsy music on a drunken pirate ship” and they have some really unique instruments (bassoon, saxophone, bass clarinet??!) and one heck of a great drummer who happens to be a good friend of ours.
Come kick of your weekend proper with some great local music and fun times at the only bar in Scottsdale that really matters! We’ll be there early about 9:30 to see the first two bands too Giant Cloud and Big.Fast.Easy. Please forward to anyone I may have missed.
Thanks for being such good friends and super fans!
Hmm. The Rogue is tiny! Reading the description of the band, I think that could be fun.

it apepars to start at 8pm and is $7.
"...on a drunken pirate ship"?
Sounds like a new vomiting noise.

"Art Brut/The Blood Arm side project Everybody Was In The French Resistance...Now will be ending their US tour in Phoenix's Rhythm Room. Eddie Argos and Dyan Valdes album is called Fixing the Charts."
I really enjoy this album. It's very poppy(too much so for my punk rock wife). Fans of Art Brut should check it out.

Who is going to the Big Pink and A Place to Bury Strangers?
I'm going to the Big Pink/A Place to Bury Strangers. In fact if I get going I'll buy my ticket tonight at Stinkweeds.
Looking forward to the end of this week and next week's concert calendar. April has been pretty good for shows in the Phoenix area the last 10 years thanks to Coachella. Checking out:
Fri April 9th-Muse/Silversun Pickups @ US Airways Center
Sat April 10th-Bad Brains @ Celebrity Theatre
Wed April 14th-The Big Pink/A Place to Bury Strangers @ Rhythm Room
Definitely contemplating hitting Obscura at Rips Ales and Cocktails after Bad Brains Saturday.
I guess Stateside has some big announcement this Wednesday for a show on Saturday July 31st. I wonder who it is? Last time they had an announcement like this it ended up being Phoenix. I'm crossing my fingers for LCD Soundsystem.
I just read this on azcentral:
4/10-11: Cowtown's PHXAM Junk Jam in Peoria

Things will be heating up in Peoria this weekend, but the weather is not to blame. About 150 skateboarders from across the globe will compete at Cowtown's PHXAM Junk Jam at Rio Vista Skate Park.
PHXAM Junk Jam
When: Gates open at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 10, and 11 a.m. Sunday, April 11.
Where: Rio Vista Skate Park, 8866 W. Thunderbird Road, Peoria.
Admission: $5 per day.
Details: 877-CTAZ-788, phxam.com.
PHXAM Junk Jam After Party
When: Doors open at 6 p.m., show begins at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 10.
Where: Celebrity Theatre, 440 N. 32nd St., Phoenix..
Details: 877-CTAZ-788, phxam.com.
The two-day event started nine years ago as a fundraiser for Desert West Skateboard Plaza and today it attracts about 1,500 spectators each day.
"I was at the contest that helped promote and fund-raise the money to open up the first concrete park," said Shane Heyl, a skateboarder and member of the band the Goat and the Occasional Others. "To see it come from that to gradually grow into this huge event they have every year is pretty amazing."
Amateur riders have traveled from as far away as Australia and Spain to compete for more than $8,000 in cash and prizes. All riders have industry sponsorship or are recognized amateurs.
"Basically (you have to be) well on your way to becoming a pro," event spokesperson Laura Martin said.
The top 40 riders from the qualifying jams on Saturday will move on to Sunday's semifinals. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place as well as for best trick.
Judges will be industry members and former professional skateboarders, including Matt Milligan and Dave Duren.
Several professional skateboarders are also expected to attend.
"In the past, Paul Rodriguez, Eric Koston, Rick Howard and Mike Carroll have come. So many different pros have shown up. This year, involving so much more of the industry, even more of them will be coming," said contest coordinator Trent Martin.
The jam format has changed from previous years to involve more street skateboarding styles. So the Junk Jam is making ledges, banks, ramps and other skateable surfaces out of refrigerators, washers, scrap metal, even a motorcycle.
New products and displays from companies such as Vans, Elwood, Skullcandy, Nixon, Shake Junt and Pig will be featured at the event.
On Saturday, the party continues late into the night at Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix with a performance by Bad Brains.
The all-ages after-party features professional skateboarder Tony Trujillo's band, local one-man band Via Vengeance, and Goat and the Occasional Others.
"It's almost like a dream come true. (Bad Brains) is a legendary band that I never thought in a million years I would be sharing a stage with," said Scottsdale's Shane Ocell, of Via Vengeance.
Only 1,000 tickets will be available for the after-party. They are available at the Cowtown Skateboards locations in Phoenix, Glendale and Tempe, Stinkweeds Record Exchange in Phoenix, Eastside Records in Tempe, Mastodon Professional Body Piercing in Mesa, and Celebrity Theatre
. Tickets for the skateboard contest are available at all Cowtown locations.
1,000 tickets is much less than Celebrity Theatre's 1/2 house capacity of 1,400:
...which means this show is going to be intimate and awesome.Quote:
What is the seating capacity for the theatre?
1/2 House: 1400
3/4 House: 1800
In the Round: 2650
This is way cool. I remember entering one of the first comps to fundraise for the westside park.
I might hold out on APTBS til the last minute since I'm not sure when we're taking my kids to Sedona before Coachella. :/

Yes, that was the big announcement. I do like This American Life, but I was a little disappointed.

Git er done!

Have fun at Nascar, GPS, take some photos and put them up in the PHX thread post race.
So I could watch Wire Tap instead of Lady Gaga? No thanks. Actually, I probably can't afford Gaga at this point anyway.
