I'm actually considering that whole weekend of shows at Crescent but we'll see.
Friday: Funk and Soul @ Midnight all vinyl party.
Saturday: Tallest Man on Earth
Sunday: Tycho/The Album Leaf
Monday: Yeasayer/Daedelus
Tuesday: Twin Shadow

Oh snap, cool. Wonder if I have that Monday off then? Would make the Tycho show more likely.

Re: General Phoenix Area Shows
No love for Purity Ring on that Friday? It'll probably before the Funk and Soul party.

Re: General Phoenix Area Shows
Holy shit. I skipped PiL at Coachella because...whatever. Now I can see him. W00t.
-
Re: General Phoenix Area Shows
Quick, somebody notify Tom. Had to miss PiL at Coachella because they conflicted with Fever Ray (which was by far the right decision to make). So glad to see a Phoenix date to make up for that.
-
Re: General Phoenix Area Shows
I think PiL was playing as I left the festival because I remember hearing some familiar song on my way out....

Re: General Phoenix Area Shows
This might not appeal to anyone, but Nick Lowe Monday 10/01/12 at the musical instrument museum. And so it goes..
-
Re: General Phoenix Area Shows
Don't know who Nick Lowe is.
PiL tickets purchased. 2 come out to $67 after fees.
-
Re: General Phoenix Area Shows
Well he's not as exciting as PIL. Similar in style to Elvis Costello, but his last album has a retro 50s feel. He also did an album with a band called Rockpile.
I got my Presets tickets for the Pomona show yesterday! It's just a few days before PIL so that should be a great week.

Listened to him for about an hour last night on Spotify -- nope, didn't know who he was before. Sorry to disappoint you, Tom.

Japandroids - 11-07 - Scottsdale, AZ - Martini Ranch
How is this venue?
-
Re: General Phoenix Area Shows
It's fine. Saw an unplugged Metric show there a couple years back and it was packed, then Marnie Stern last February and it was considerably less crowded.
-
Re: General Phoenix Area Shows
Bleached is the opener for that Japandroids show. Really good if you're into the three chord grungy stuff. I'm not a big fan of Martini, but it's ok. My recollection is the floor space is somewhat small and then there are some tables in the back. Some of the tables are on a raised level near the soundbooth. But 100 or so people and the floor would be packed, but with the stage sitting about waist high it's easy to get a good view. At least there are taxis in that area to drive me home.

Surge to Japandroids or STRFKR? STRFKR has a huge advantage right now since they are playing the Crescent Ballroom. Torn.
-
Re: General Phoenix Area Shows
The Japandroids album is still one of my favorites of the year. I've only seen them once and it was a very high energy show. They also connected with the crowd really well so I'll still hit up that show despite having to go up to Scottsdale.
Matthew Dear and Light Asylum at RR Oct 29th. I really dig both of these artists. The Light Asylum singer reminds me of Alison Moyet, especially on A Certain Somone and Shallow Tears.

I've seen a bunch of local shows at Martini Ranch, and I have enjoyed it every time. I went to a sold out Temper Trap show there and it wasn't too bad. Sound is decent, stage is high up so you can see pretty well, and there is a ton of patio space so you have room to hang out beween bands.

Apparently you've never listened to a single mix I've ever made and posted on here.

No, I don't think I've ever downloaded anybody's. Just don't hang out in those threads. Have barely downloaded a couple of Tommy's mixes that he's tagged me for on Facebook. Nothing personal.
So what about PiL, are you going?
