It seems like Fauxchella is overshadowing the Coachella weekend with their lineup. For those who don't know what it is; it's all the Coachella bands playing the Bay area the week of coachella. Would you rather be at Coachella or stay a week in SF to see Coachella bands do their own headlining gig?

The conflicts on Wednesday and Thursday at Fauxchella are brutal, while the other days don't really do much for me. Plus Gorillaz, Fever Ray, Charlotte Gainsbourg, LCD, etc aren't playing.

can we do a breakdown of the cost to attend all those shows vs. a Coachella ticket?

Tiesto at Ruby Skye is going to have the douchiest crowd in the history of music. No exaggeration.

Faux-chella has a pretty good lineup but it doesn't have 1/10th the atmosphere Coachella has, and that goes a looooonnnnnggggg way.

That is cool if you don't like making the roadie from SF, but the difference in cost is INSANE! At Coachella not only do you have the best festival vibe going on for you, but you're seeing what, at LEAST 30 bands a day for like $10 a piece. If you were to see 30 bands at the Faux version, you're going to pay way more than the cost of a 3-day pass at the real deal... and where can I camp with my car for $55 the entire time? ;) Oh, and...

Doh! Typo mania! 10 bands a day over three days, 30 total at the minimum. Last year was a personal high, more like 20 a day. Even more for the money.

My 2008 SF Fauxchella included DCFC at the Fillmore and then Goldfrapp at the Warfield into Cut//Copy & Simian Mobile Disco at the Mezzanine in the same evening. It was pure awesome, but I'm still sore about missing Portishead at Coachella.

For a grand total of $1404.25, and this doesn't include any ticketing fees or the 3 shows that aren't on sale yet or are not available for purchase online. And that's all assuming that you're able to get tickets to the sold out shows AND clone yourself in order to get to multiple shows at the same time, on the same night. Coachella for the win...

I usually see 6 or 7 full sets a day. Throw in 2 or 3 partial sets as well.

Anyways, the answer is Coachella.

The only way I'd even consider it is if i already lived in the bay area even then the two don't seem to be in the same vein of experiences. Coachella is an event with its own separate setting and it takes you out of being in venues to see the bands that are playing.

It's a valid point if you weren't aware.

San Francisco is a great place to live if you're an avid coachella-goer. It's pretty much the only city where you have the option to resolve most set conflicts if you're willing to spend the money.
