The Official Educate Others On The Lineup Thread 2010
130 acts, most of them completely unknown to me for sure. If you happen to know about any of them--particularly the smaller print ones--and wish to share your enthusiasm please do so here.
Posts without accompanying media are strongly discouraged. If you're going to post about a band, please include at least a couple youtubes you vouch for as being accurate representations of the music. Thank you.
I'd start but frankly I don't see myself as much of an authority on any of these. Go nuts.

Re: The Official Educate Others On The Lineup Thread 2010
Actually I'm going to start doing this for acts I kinda want to make fun of.
Thom Yorke ???? is the fairly pretentious name of Radiohead's lead singer's solo act. He is a subheadliner at Coachella because he is in Radiohead and has released one largely inaccessible and mostly crappy album under his own name. Here are the two songs from it that don't blow goats.
Here is what those songs can be expected to sound like live.

Re: The Official Educate Others On The Lineup Thread 2010
Florence and the Machine's debut album "Lungs" (Universal Island) finally claimed the No. 1 spot it was denied in an opening five-week run at No. 2 last summer, as the new U.K. sales charts were announced
They are also nominated for a number of Brit music awards. (think grammy). It's been on the charts for 28 weeks.

Monk, how close were your predictions? I'm too lazy to check but it looks like you were pretty close.

Re: The Official Educate Others On The Lineup Thread 2010
Echo And The Bunnymen are some 1980s English fancyboys, as almost all bands in the 80s were. They are most likely poofters. They have one good album called Ocean Rain which actually has several cool moments of dark, pounding wall of sound type British music. The rest of their catalog is super gay. The kind of shit you'd be really embarrassed to have start playing on your iPod on a first date with a girl under the age of 30.
I saw them at All Points West last year expecting it to be a really awesome show. It wasn't. Here are two of their good songs, of which they will likely only play the one that was in Donnie Darko.

Re: The Official Educate Others On The Lineup Thread 2010
Yann Tiersen did the score for Amelie.
Also: "His music is recognized by its use of a large variety of instruments in relatively minimalist compositions, often with a touch of either European classical music or French folk music, using primarily the piano, accordion or violin together with instruments like the melodica, xylophone, toy piano, ondes martenot, harpsichord and typewriter. His musical style is reminiscent of Frédéric Chopin, Erik Satie, Philip Glass and Michael Nyman."

Re: The Official Educate Others On The Lineup Thread 2010
King Khan is garage soul, really fun live. Any way I'm sure most of you won't like it but since he is playing 2 different days, first on Saturday with The Almighty Defenders
then on Sunday with one of his other bands King Khan & The Shrines

Re: The Official Educate Others On The Lineup Thread 2010
Coheed and Cambria are one of the more pretentious and shitty things on the planet. Observe:
Their name is Coheed and Cambria because those are the first names of two of the main characters in the comic book series written by the frontman. Each issue of the comic book series parallels an album in a massive sprawling concept of shit. Here is the basic plot of the series which is entitled The Amory Wars:
The Amory Wars takes place in Heaven's Fence, a collection of 78 planets held in place by interconnecting beams of energy, known as the Keywork. The story revolves around the messianic Claudio Kilgannon, son of Coheed Kilgannon and Cambria Kilgannon. Over the course of the story, Claudio assumes the mantle of The Crowing, foretold savior of Heaven's Fence. In the end, he must face the "Supreme Tri-mage" Wilhelm Ryan, absolute ruler of Heaven's Fence and the one ultimately responsible for the death of Claudio's family.
In short, Coheed and Cambria is a lot like other talentless garbage in that they feel the need to invent a lot of words. Think of them like The Lord Of The Rings trilogy, except even less talent.
Youtubes omitted for the reason that i refuse to look for any.

Re: The Official Educate Others On The Lineup Thread 2010
The Dillinger Escape Plan, from Monklishs' state of New Jersey. They are considered '' math metal'' if you needed a genre. Known for highly explosive live shows which can include climbing the rafters and jumping off into the audience. Throwing their own gear into the audience, blowing fire, and ending up bloody and battered afer their sets are done. They are releasing a new record titled ''Option Paralysis'' which is coming March 23rd 2010. One track that is out online called ''Farewell Mona Lisa'' is below, plus some live videos.
