tl;dr --> Their seemingly-vacuous nature and obsession with basing their identity on material wealth is disturbing and makes me not like them.
I feel like this is not always the case. Something like this is definitely showing off material wealth, and is therefore obnoxious:

But this isn't offensive to me. It's just a young person sharing what her life looks like. What's so horrible about that?

The parents of the girl with six Birkin bags should be ashamed of themselves. I still find it compelling, though.

Re: The Great Mood Thread
How about when we list all the concerts we will be attending? Is that different?

It's not, I have no issue with polo girl. That's just a day in the life for her. Cool. But the girl with all Hermes Birkin bags? That's a bit ridiculous.

I doubt they even know. In my experience, most kids who have that much shit have that much shit because their parents are totally oblivious and prefer to provide a limitless AmEx than actually spend time being parents.

Greg had to sell a lot of blood to afford a Luis Vuitton bag from three seasons ago lololol

That's old money for you. The nouveau riche make a point of spoiling their kids.

Re: The Great Mood Thread
Courtney, it's the super non-ironic tags that really show off the douchiness in a lot of those. Simply adding "#hamptons" next to "Polo Practice" automatically moves that particular example into a different level. BUT I do agree that that one example is one of the few very innocuous photos on that tumblr.
The worst offenders are the photos of bar receipts in the hundreds of thousands of dollars for crazy bottles of champagne, caviar, etc. i think there wa sa receipt for $400,000 in there somewhere, for fucking consumable goods at a restaurant.

In defense, if you are going to submit an expense report, that’s one receipt you don’t want to lose. #instagrambackup

Re: The Great Mood Thread
My son is in Salt Lake City now, he was able to get on the plane with just a copy of his birth certificate. So for future reference, if you are ever traveling and do so much acid you lose all your shit, you can still find your way home. Yay.
