That is what I meant by laid off that is the only way I would get unemployment, if they fired me though I would get a few months of severance so I could at least lay low for awhile. Just to take a break, I know that sounds stupid but I have worked since I was 16, the longest I have ever been off work is when I was 8 months pregnant with my kids and I went right back to work 6 wks after my daughter was born and started college full time 4 wks after my son was born. And that was 14 years ago.

Yeah I know. Luckily with my construction experience working in accounting and administration there will always be work for me somewhere. There will always be shit to build in the commercial industry. Right now even while the rest of the country is slowing down we are going strong, we just change what we build. When I first started here it was all retail, then office buildings a couple years after that, then 2 years ago we built condos, now in todays market it is hospitals, schools, retirement facilities and alot of stuff for the military.
The thought does sound nice though, but after a couple weeks I would be bored silly.

Seeing all those high Michigan stats makes me want to watch Roger & Me again. Heck, the economy itself makes me want to watch that. (yah yah, know it's propaganda blah blah blah)

Also, Courtney: I have a lot of family in New Mexico, including a cousin who's going to college in Santa Fe and my mom and grandparents who live about an hour outside of it. It's a really beautiful area and the weather is not as severe as some might have you think, especially if you enjoy thunder storms.

I don't think being a new mother exactly counts as being off work.

I've heard the weather is great as well (from an ex-boss), but how is the quality of living? I think D H Lawrence is buried somewhere in New Mexico....and I know there's a bomb museum there (an ex dragged me there once for no apparent reason).

I have driven through NM and the red rocks are beautiful in the northern part of the state. I could imagine living there. And there are not many places I would give up AZ for.

Haha, bombs and grave sites. Can't say this is really selling me on New Mexico as a place to live.
Although, for the record, I think going to a bomb museum would actually make a pretty excellent date.

New Mexico is very beautiful Courtney. Also a great place for artistic minded individuals. I have often considered moving there.

Yeah, this all sucks much more for people in the workforce who are 50-65 than for me, because it possibly means delayed retirement etc. Luckily I am young so being broke is pretty much par for the course. Although, hopefully it won't be a permanent condition. I can always go back to school.

Yeah I probably won't retire till I am 70 either unfortunately, and the sad thing, no one in my family has lived past 65 so I get to retire 5 years after I die.

I do not Courtney but my ex is a Photographer and we took a trip there for one of her shoots. We met so many cool photogs and artists. People who moved there specifically for the purpose of creating in an artistic environment.

4 mos in NM made me want to give up on life. Drive thru towns like Socorro or Gallup or Grants and see how 'arty' and 'beautiful' they are. Report back .............

Oh I have been to Gallup, that place is a HOLE!!! Having the natives come up to sell you jewelery while eating breakfast was quite an experience. I just like the looks of Northern NM from driving through but we spent the night in Santa Fe and I wasn't all that impressed. I would like to explore the area though.

I am limiting it to the Seattle area for the time being. I'm doing a mix of job listing and contacts I've already made.
As far as grad school goes, I got into NYU but the whole baby thing happened.... So that is postponed (I'm applying again this year).
